Cannot request SensorKit capability – “Request” form does not appear
Hi! We are trying to request the SensorKit entitlement (com.apple.developer.sensorkit.reader.allow) for a research app we’re working on. When we go to Apple Developer → Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles → Identifiers, we see the SensorKit capability listed under "Capability Requests", but: There’s no form or button to submit the request, unlike with other capabilities. We tested this using an Account Holder role, and also tried requesting other capabilities — which do show the form correctly, so this seems to be an issue specific to SensorKit. We’d appreciate any guidance on: Whether this is a known issue with the SensorKit request flow. If there’s an alternative way to request this capability while the form is unavailable. macOS 11.x system reported an error when using endpoint security

Test my app without ADP membership
Hello community, I'm new here, so please excuse my blunt question. I'm trying to understand how everything works and the logic behind it. I have an idea for an app which requires the FamilyControl entitlement. Now I am not sure if the idea even works, so I wanted to test it on my own device. Am I correct, that I cannot even test an App with such entitlements without paying for the ADP? Not even on my own device? I completely understand I need to be a member in the ADP if I want to distribute my app, but I'm not there, yet, and I just want to do a proof-of-concept. I thought I can't be the first one with that question, but couldn't find a past topic on this, so I'm posting it. Regards, Niklas

Electron and Notarization randomly failing.
I’m having trouble with the notary step of our electron app. It sometimes says “In progress” for days on end, where other times, it only takes 15-20 minutes. For the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that it will take longer than the 20 minutes if our app was using a not latest version of the electron module -- https://www.npmjs.com/package/electron. I would then update our codebase to build using the latest version, and then try to sign and notarize the app again, and it would work till a new version was released. This was the first time that that process didn’t work. Everything is on latest, and we’re still getting stuck “in progress” for days on end. We have been signing and Notarizing this app for years now, so it's not the first time we're trying to do this process To make matters stranger, I have two branches of the same exact code base – same dependencies, same source code, same everything – there is no difference. One sign and notarize works 100% of the time where the other one hasn’t worked yet. Any ideas would be helpful. I'm not really sure where to begin to debug this. Thanks!

Definitive Rules for Using Secure Enclave on MacOS
Can someone tell me the applications requirements for using the secure enclave on MacOS? Does the application need to be signed with the secure-enclave entitlement in order to use it? Since this is a restricted entitlement, does my App ID need approval to use it from Apple? Currently I'm building in XCode 16 on Sequoia (15.5) using developer signing. My application is a C/C++ daemon running as plist out of /Library/LaunchDaemons. I have also built it as an application using the instructions here but this has not lead to a solution: https://aninterestingwebsite.com/documentation/xcode/signing-a-daemon-with-a-restricted-entitlement/ When I run my application from the command line via sudo signed but without the secure-enclave entitlement enabled in my entitlements file it runs. Embedding a command-line tool to Application
Hi, I need to bundle an additional binary along my yet published application. It is a Audio Unit test application. My yet published application implemented Audio Unit plugin support. But upload is always rejected: Validation failed (409) Invalid Provisioning Profile. The provisioning profile included in the bundle com.gsequencer.GSequencer [com.gsequencer.GSequencer.pkg/Payload/com.gsequencer.GSequencer.app] is invalid. [Missing code-signing certificate.] For more information, visit the macOS Developer Portal. (ID: ****) I have followed the instructions here: Embedding a helper tool in a sandboxed app but no luck. Does anyone know whats going on? I use Transporter to upload the application, the embedded.provisioningprofile is copied from Xcode build and code signing is done manually.

Replacing binary within app (in-situ upgrade) without breaking signing?
Yes, this is very likely the completely wrong way to do things but I would like to ask regardless. Currently with windows/linux I can perform an in-situ upgrade of an application by performing a download of the binary 'foo' and then doing a rename-and-replace and subsequently requesting the licencee to restart the program and all is good. With macOS, as the binary is within the foo.app ( Contents/macOS/foo ) I imagine I cannot perform a similar operation without breaking the signing of the foo.app itself? ....or, can I individually sign the binary foo for macOS and perform the same type of operation? Download new foo as foo.new rename current foo.app/Content/macOS/foo -> foo.old rename foo.new -> foo Restart application Again, I know this is very likely an un-macOS way of performing the task but as you can imagine with supporting cross-platform development it's usually easier to maintain a consistent method even if it's "not ideal".

Gatekeeper rejects notarized app ("Unnotarized Developer ID") when using necessary entitlements
Hello everyone, I'm hoping to get some guidance on a frustrating codesigning issue. I have a macOS application that successfully completes the entire notarization and stapling process, but it is still rejected by Gatekeeper during the final verification step. The rejection only happens when I apply the entitlements that I believe are necessary for my app's functionality. The application is built with PyInstaller and has the following components: A main executable written in Python. A bundled Tcl/Tk instance for the GUI. Embedded Playwright components, which include the Node.js runtime and a full Chromium browser instance. These are located deep inside the .app bundle. The Problem The core of my application relies on Playwright to perform some automated tasks, and its bundled Chromium browser requires specific entitlements to function under the Hardened Runtime. Specifically, it needs com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit and com.apple.security.cs.allow-unsigned-executable-memory. My signing process is as follows: Prepare Entitlements: I use two separate .plist files: main_app_entitlements.plist: This is for the main Python executable and only contains com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit. jit_helper_entitlements.plist: This is for the node and Chromium Helper executables within the Playwright framework. It contains both com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit and com.apple.security.cs.allow-unsigned-executable-memory. Inside-Out Signing: I perform a deep signing process. I find all binaries, dylibs, and frameworks, sort them by path length (deepest first), and sign each one individually with the appropriate entitlements. The main .app bundle is signed last. Notarization: I zip the .app bundle and submit it using xcrun notarytool submit --wait. The tool reports a successful notarization every time. Stapling: I use xcrun stapler staple on the .app bundle, and it confirms that the ticket was successfully stapled. The point of failure The final step is to verify the result with spctl: spctl --assess --type execute --verbose --ignore-cache "MyApp.app" This is where it fails. The output is: MyApp.app: rejected source=Unnotarized Developer ID This "Unnotarized Developer ID" message is confusing because xcrun notarytool and stapler both report complete success. The crucial detail If I run the entire process without any entitlements—just signing with the Hardened Runtime enabled—the final spctl assessment passes. However, the application then crashes at runtime as soon as it tries to use Playwright, which is expected since the browser helpers are missing their required JIT entitlements. My question Is there a known issue where using com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit or com.apple.security.cs.allow-unsigned-executable-memory on nested helper executables can invalidate an otherwise successful notarization? Is my strategy of applying different, granular entitlements to different executables within the same app bundle correct? Could the issue be related to how or when these entitlements are applied during an "inside-out" signing process? Is there a better way to structure the signing of these complex components? I'm confident the notarization itself is working, but it seems Gatekeeper's local assessment is stricter and is being tripped up by my entitlement configuration. Provisioning profile doesn't support the External Link Account capability
Hello, i have a problem. From one day to another i get following error (I never experienced this error with the same profile before) while trying to build and release my app via fastlane: exportArchive Provisioning profile "" doesn't support the External Link Account capability. Looking in the App developer website, it seems, that the existing and valid profile includes this capability. On the other side, inspecting the profile via xcode profile download, there is no hint that this capability is enabled. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Use 3rd party USB drivers in iPadOS?
Hi everyone, I'm working with a third party to integrate their USB driver into our app and I'm wondering if iPadOS supports bundling a prebuilt .systemextension file with the entitlement com.apple.developer.system-extension.redistributable into our app that has the com.apple.developer.driverkit.communicates-with-drivers entitlement? If not, is there a way to bundle a third party USB driver into our iPad app?

Gatekeeper "bundle_id: NOT_A_BUNDLE" rejection
Context: large platform-agnostic CLI tool built as a handcrafted bundle (not via an Xcode project) that has been successfully codesigned, stapled, and zipped; macOS 14.7.5 syspolicy_check reports App passed all pre-distribution checks and is ready for distribution. However, running the executable in the Terminal produces a "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified" popup. The executable does succeed after manually clearing its quarantine attribute. Having worked through Resolving Gatekeeper Problems, the only detail logged in the Console is Adding Gatekeeper denial breadcrumb (direct): ... bundle_id: NOT_A_BUNDLE. Experimental observations: a minimized trivial CLI executable with a similar bundle layout and name successfully executes without being rejected, and oddly, renaming the original bundle from "name" to "name.suffix" allows it to be successfully executed. It's unclear why the bundle name would affect Gatekeeper only in some circumstances, and we'd greatly prefer not to rename the bundle for compatibility reasons, so it would be good if there were some way to get further diagnostic detail leading to a workaround - thank you.

How can I export the "Notary Profile" used by notarytool for CI/CD
Once I have built my macOS .app and signed it I run notarytool using this simple shell script: #!/bin/sh ditto -c -k --keepParent "$1.app" "$1.zip" xcrun notarytool submit "$1.zip" --keychain-profile "Notary Profile for DeepSkyStacker" --wait xcrun stapler staple $1.app rm -f $1.zip How can I export that "keychain-profile" (notary profile) so I can use it in CI/CD actions? Clearly I don't wish to expose the full invocation of xcrun notarytool store-credentials.

notary tool consistently delay for 1 of my app even it already accepted multiple times
Hi, I recently got a consistent delay from notary tool. I have viewed all your suggestions and understand that it "occasionally" will have further review and take longer time, but then it will be faster. However, in my case, my app although is accepted many times. It is still significantly delay. It is a native macOS app called ConniePad. Creating codesigned AppleScript apps
In the past it was relatively easy to download from the developer portal both the app signing and installer signing certs so that I could sign AppleScripts from Script Editor when exporting them and when building packages in Jamf Composer. I went to set that up today and it seems things have changed in the last few years since I've had to set this up. I've been unable to sort this out and would love some help. I'm looking for a tutorial on doing this that walks someone step-by-step through the process for obtaining the certs (yes, I have dev account) and setting them up in keychain and then making use of them. Thanks!

Unable to install profiles on device and sign apps
I have tried again and again to generate and install the .mobileprovision on my device for testing apps following the exact instructions. I cannot get this to work. When I tap the .mobileprovision on the device I get the error "Profile Error - This profile cannot be installed." codesign Failure with errSecInternalComponent Error

Cannot request SensorKit capability – “Request” form does not appear
Hi! We are trying to request the SensorKit entitlement (com.apple.developer.sensorkit.reader.allow) for a research app we’re working on. When we go to Apple Developer → Certificates, Identifiers &amp; Profiles → Identifiers, we see the SensorKit capability listed under "Capability Requests", but: There’s no form or button to submit the request, unlike with other capabilities. We tested this using an Account Holder role, and also tried requesting other capabilities — which do show the form correctly, so this seems to be an issue specific to SensorKit. We’d appreciate any guidance on: Whether this is a known issue with the SensorKit request flow. If there’s an alternative way to request this capability while the form is unavailable. Test my app without ADP membership
Hello community, I'm new here, so please excuse my blunt question. I'm trying to understand how everything works and the logic behind it. I have an idea for an app which requires the FamilyControl entitlement. Now I am not sure if the idea even works, so I wanted to test it on my own device. Am I correct, that I cannot even test an App with such entitlements without paying for the ADP? Not even on my own device? I completely understand I need to be a member in the ADP if I want to distribute my app, but I'm not there, yet, and I just want to do a proof-of-concept. I thought I can't be the first one with that question, but couldn't find a past topic on this, so I'm posting it. Regards, Niklas

Electron and Notarization randomly failing.
I’m having trouble with the notary step of our electron app. It sometimes says “In progress” for days on end, where other times, it only takes 15-20 minutes. For the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that it will take longer than the 20 minutes if our app was using a not latest version of the electron module -- https://www.npmjs.com/package/electron. I would then update our codebase to build using the latest version, and then try to sign and notarize the app again, and it would work till a new version was released. This was the first time that that process didn’t work. Everything is on latest, and we’re still getting stuck “in progress” for days on end. We have been signing and Notarizing this app for years now, so it's not the first time we're trying to do this process To make matters stranger, I have two branches of the same exact code base – same dependencies, same source code, same everything – there is no difference. One sign and notarize works 100% of the time where the other one hasn’t worked yet. Any ideas would be helpful. I'm not really sure where to begin to debug this. Thanks!

Definitive Rules for Using Secure Enclave on MacOS
Can someone tell me the applications requirements for using the secure enclave on MacOS? Does the application need to be signed with the secure-enclave entitlement in order to use it? Since this is a restricted entitlement, does my App ID need approval to use it from Apple? Currently I'm building in XCode 16 on Sequoia (15.5) using developer signing. My application is a C/C++ daemon running as plist out of /Library/LaunchDaemons. Embedding a command-line tool to Application
Hi, I need to bundle an additional binary along my yet published application. It is a Audio Unit test application. My yet published application implemented Audio Unit plugin support. But upload is always rejected: Validation failed (409) Invalid Provisioning Profile. The provisioning profile included in the bundle com.gsequencer.GSequencer [com.gsequencer.GSequencer.pkg/Payload/com.gsequencer.GSequencer.app] is invalid. [Missing code-signing certificate.] For more information, visit the macOS Developer Portal. (ID: ****) I have followed the instructions here: Embedding a helper tool in a sandboxed app but no luck. Does anyone know whats going on? I use Transporter to upload the application, the embedded.provisioningprofile is copied from Xcode build and code signing is done manually.

Replacing binary within app (in-situ upgrade) without breaking signing?
Yes, this is very likely the completely wrong way to do things but I would like to ask regardless. Currently with windows/linux I can perform an in-situ upgrade of an application by performing a download of the binary 'foo' and then doing a rename-and-replace and subsequently requesting the licencee to restart the program and all is good. With macOS, as the binary is within the foo.app ( Contents/macOS/foo ) I imagine I cannot perform a similar operation without breaking the signing of the foo.app itself? ....or, can I individually sign the binary foo for macOS and perform the same type of operation? Download new foo as foo.new rename current foo.app/Content/macOS/foo -> foo.old rename foo.new -> foo Restart application Again, I know this is very likely an un-macOS way of performing the task but as you can imagine with supporting cross-platform development it's usually easier to maintain a consistent method even if it's "not ideal".

Gatekeeper rejects notarized app ("Unnotarized Developer ID") when using necessary entitlements
Hello everyone, I'm hoping to get some guidance on a frustrating codesigning issue. I have a macOS application that successfully completes the entire notarization and stapling process, but it is still rejected by Gatekeeper during the final verification step. The rejection only happens when I apply the entitlements that I believe are necessary for my app's functionality. The application is built with PyInstaller and has the following components: A main executable written in Python. A bundled Tcl/Tk instance for the GUI. Embedded Playwright components, which include the Node.js runtime and a full Chromium browser instance. These are located deep inside the .app bundle. The Problem The core of my application relies on Playwright to perform some automated tasks, and its bundled Chromium browser requires specific entitlements to function under the Hardened Runtime. Specifically, it needs com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit and com.apple.security.cs.allow-unsigned-executable-memory. My signing process is as follows: Prepare Entitlements: I use two separate .plist files: main_app_entitlements.plist: This is for the main Python executable and only contains com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit. jit_helper_entitlements.plist: This is for the node and Chromium Helper executables within the Playwright framework. It contains both com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit and com.apple.security.cs.allow-unsigned-executable-memory. Inside-Out Signing: I perform a deep signing process. I find all binaries, dylibs, and frameworks, sort them by path length (deepest first), and sign each one individually with the appropriate entitlements. The main .app bundle is signed last. Notarization: I zip the .app bundle and submit it using xcrun notarytool submit --wait. The tool reports a successful notarization every time. Stapling: I use xcrun stapler staple on the .app bundle, and it confirms that the ticket was successfully stapled. The point of failure The final step is to verify the result with spctl: spctl --assess --type execute --verbose --ignore-cache "MyApp.app" This is where it fails. The output is: MyApp.app: rejected source=Unnotarized Developer ID This "Unnotarized Developer ID" message is confusing because xcrun notarytool and stapler both report complete success. The crucial detail If I run the entire process without any entitlements—just signing with the Hardened Runtime enabled—the final spctl assessment passes. However, the application then crashes at runtime as soon as it tries to use Playwright, which is expected since the browser helpers are missing their required JIT entitlements. My question Is there a known issue where using com.apple.security.cs.allow-jit or com.apple.security.cs.allow-unsigned-executable-memory on nested helper executables can invalidate an otherwise successful notarization? Is my strategy of applying different, granular entitlements to different executables within the same app bundle correct? Could the issue be related to how or when these entitlements are applied during an "inside-out" signing process? Is there a better way to structure the signing of these complex components? I'm confident the notarization itself is working, but it seems Gatekeeper's local assessment is stricter and is being tripped up by my entitlement configuration. Provisioning profile doesn't support the External Link Account capability
Hello, i have a problem. From one day to another i get following error (I never experienced this error with the same profile before) while trying to build and release my app via fastlane: exportArchive Provisioning profile "" doesn't support the External Link Account capability. Looking in the App developer website, it seems, that the existing and valid profile includes this capability. On the other side, inspecting the profile via xcode profile download, there is no hint that this capability is enabled. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Use 3rd party USB drivers in iPadOS?
Hi everyone, I'm working with a third party to integrate their USB driver into our app and I'm wondering if iPadOS supports bundling a prebuilt .systemextension file with the entitlement com.apple.developer.system-extension.redistributable into our app that has the com.apple.developer.driverkit.communicates-with-drivers entitlement? If not, is there a way to bundle a third party USB driver into our iPad app?

Gatekeeper "bundle_id: NOT_A_BUNDLE" rejection
Context: large platform-agnostic CLI tool built as a handcrafted bundle (not via an Xcode project) that has been successfully codesigned, stapled, and zipped; macOS 14.7.5 syspolicy_check reports App passed all pre-distribution checks and is ready for distribution. However, running the executable in the Terminal produces a "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified" popup. The executable does succeed after manually clearing its quarantine attribute. Having worked through Resolving Gatekeeper Problems, the only detail logged in the Console is Adding Gatekeeper denial breadcrumb (direct): ... bundle_id: NOT_A_BUNDLE. Experimental observations: a minimized trivial CLI executable with a similar bundle layout and name successfully executes without being rejected, and oddly, renaming the original bundle from "name" to "name.suffix" allows it to be successfully executed. It's unclear why the bundle name would affect Gatekeeper only in some circumstances, and we'd greatly prefer not to rename the bundle for compatibility reasons, so it would be good if there were some way to get further diagnostic detail leading to a workaround - thank you.

How can I export the "Notary Profile" used by notarytool for CI/CD
Once I have built my macOS .app and signed it I run notarytool using this simple shell script: #!/bin/sh ditto -c -k --keepParent "$1.app" "$1.zip" xcrun notarytool submit "$1.zip" --keychain-profile "Notary Profile for DeepSkyStacker" --wait xcrun stapler staple $1.app rm -f $1.zip How can I export that "keychain-profile" (notary profile) so I can use it in CI/CD actions? Clearly I don't wish to expose the full invocation of xcrun notarytool store-credentials.

notary tool consistently delay for 1 of my app even it already accepted multiple times

I have viewed all your suggestions and understand that it "occasionally" will have further review and take longer time, but then it will be faster. Creating codesigned AppleScript apps
In the past it was relatively easy to download from the developer portal both the app signing and installer signing certs so that I could sign AppleScripts from Script Editor when exporting them and when building packages in Jamf Composer. I went to set that up today and it seems things have changed in the last few years since I've had to set this up. I've been unable to sort this out and would love some help. I'm looking for a tutorial on doing this that walks someone step-by-step through the process for obtaining the certs (yes, I have dev account) and setting them up in keychain and then making use of them. Thanks!

Unable to install profiles on device and sign apps
I have tried again and again to generate and install the .mobileprovision on my device for testing apps following the exact instructions. I cannot get this to work. When I tap the .mobileprovision on the device I get the error "Profile Error - This profile cannot be installed." In Xcode in the console as I try to install the profile, this is what it shows: `profiled (ManagedConfiguration) Desc : Invalid Profile US Desc: Invalid Profile Domain : MCProfileErrorDomain Code : 1000 Type : MCFatalError and then profiled Desc : Invalid Profile Sugg : Invalid Profile US Desc: Invalid Profile US Sugg: Invalid Profile Domain : MCInstallationErrorDomain Code : 4000 Type : MCFatalError ...Underlying error: NSError: Desc : Invalid Profile US Desc: Invalid Profile Domain : MCProfileErrorDomain Code : 1000 Type : MCFatalError I have been at this for days and cannot get it to work. codesign Failure with errSecInternalComponent Error
I am experiencing a persistent issue when trying to sign my application, PhotoKiosk.app, using codesign. The process consistently fails with the error errSecInternalComponent, and my troubleshooting indicates the problem is with how the system accesses or validates my certificate's trust chain, rather than the certificate itself. Error Details and Configuration: codesign command executed: codesign --force --verbose --options=runtime --entitlements /Users/sergiomordente/Documents/ProjetosPhotocolor/PhotoKiosk-4M/entitlements.plist --sign "Developer ID Application: Sérgio Mordente (G75SJ6S9NC)" /Users/sergiomordente/Documents/ProjetosPhotocolor/PhotoKiosk-4M/dist/PhotoKiosk.app Error message received: Warning: unable to build chain to self-signed root for signer "(null)" /Users/sergiomordente/Documents/ProjetosPhotocolor/PhotoKiosk-4M/dist/PhotoKiosk.app: errSecInternalComponent Diagnostic Tests and Verifications Performed: Code Signing Identity Validation: I ran the command security find-identity -v -p codesigning, which successfully confirmed the presence and validity of my certificate in the Keychain. The command output correctly lists my identity: D8FB11D4C14FEC9BF17E699E833B23980AF7E64F "Developer ID Application: Sérgio Mordente (G75SJ6S9NC)" This suggests that the certificate and its associated private key are present and functional for the system. Keychain Certificate Verification: The "Apple Root CA - G3 Root" certificate is present in the System Roots keychain. The "Apple Worldwide Developer Relations Certification Authority (G6)" certificate is present and shown as valid. The trust setting for my "Developer ID Application" certificate is set to "Use System Defaults". Attempted Certificate Export via security: To further diagnose the problem, I attempted to export the certificate using the security find-certificate command with the exact name of my identity. Command executed (using double quotes): security find-certificate -c -p "Developer ID Application: Sérgio Mordente (G75SJ6S9NC)" &gt; mycert.pem Error message: security: SecKeychainSearchCopyNext: The specified item could not be found in the keychain. The same error occurred when I tried with single quotes. This result is contradictory to the output of find-identity, which successfully located the certificate. This suggests an internal inconsistency in the Keychain database, where the certificate is recognized as a valid signing identity but cannot be located via a simple certificate search. Additional Troubleshooting Attempts: I have already recreated the "Developer ID Application" certificate 4 times (I am at the limit of 5), and the issue persists with all of them. The application has been rebuilt, and the codesign command was run on a clean binary. Conclusion: The problem appears to be an internal macOS failure to build the trust chain for the certificate, as indicated by the errSecInternalComponent error. Although the certificate is present and recognized as a valid signing identity by find-identity, the codesign tool cannot complete the signature. The failure to find the certificate with find-certificate further supports the suspicion of an inconsistency within the keychain system that goes beyond a simple certificate configuration issue. I would appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this, especially given that I am at my developer certificate limit and cannot simply generate a new one.
