Missing DirectX Calls for Tearing and Depth Bound Test in D3DMetal and GPTK 3
I want to address the missing or incomplete DirectX calls from D3DMetal and Game Porting Toolkit 3. These missing calls have in part caused issue with our porting process and we are reconsidering. Missing or Incomplete Calls DXGI_FEATURE_PRESENT_ALLOW_TEARING — IDXGIFactory5::CheckFeatureSupport — this calls has to do with how VSync is handled and some modern games require it to initialize. Currently D3DMetal return 0 maybe by design but most likely because it’s not integrated. Adding a stub that returns 1 can fix this. I’m my use case I simply Noped the check and forced it to continue. D3D12_FEATURE_D3D12_OPTIONS2.DepthBoundsTestSupported — this call is also not present. Which causes games to not initialize rendering. Thankfully this was fixed by once again skipping the check. But this is essential for water rendering. This could be one reason currently water is not rendering in our game. IDXGIOutput6::GetDesc1().ColorSpace — returns DXGI_COLOR_SPACE_RGB_FULL_G22_NONE_P709 (SDR) on external HDR compatible displays. We were able to fix this by forcing HDR to be enabled. It should return HDR support. These calls may exist but they need to be updated to return the correct values. Specifically for depth bound test you can reference MoltenVK which sets it up on top of Metal since it’s not a native feature. The water issue could be also an issue with how the shaders are compiled. But I’m unable to check because of the closed source nature of GPTK and its debuggers. What is a better way we can debug our game to see why the water isn’t rendering. Does D3DMetal have some debug options or something similar? Feedback Number FB22330617 - Missing DirectX Calls for Tearing and Depth Bound Test in D3DMetal and GPTK 3 We hope these issues are resolved quickly because we were thinking of a simultaneous release with our Windows version, but we can't ship with such large bugs.

RealityKit equivalent of ARGeoAnchor?
In ARKit there is ARGeoAnchor, which lets you anchor content using latitude and longitude so objects stay fixed to a real-world location. Is there an equivalent feature in RealityKit? I want to place points in the world and make sure they don't move or drift after placement. If RealityKit doesn't support this directly, what is the recommended approach?

Request to restore full ICC profile support (LUT-based display profiles) in macOS ColorSync
Dear Apple Color Management Team, I’m a professional visual creator working on color-critical photo and graphic projects using macOS (currently 26.1 Tahoe). In recent macOS releases, LUT-based ICC display profiles (such as XYZ LUT + Matrix types generated by DisplayCAL or professional spectrophotometers) can no longer be installed or activated via ColorSync. This limitation significantly affects professional workflows in photography, graphic design, prepress, and video color grading — fields that rely on precise display profiling. The current workaround (converting LUT profiles to simple shaper/matrix ICC v2) results in less accurate tone response and color reproduction, particularly in the dark range and wide-gamut displays. I kindly request Apple to restore or re-enable the ability to install and use ICC v2/v4 LUT-based display profiles under ColorSync, as was possible on macOS Monterey and Ventura. This would allow professionals to continue using trusted calibration tools such as DisplayCAL, X-Rite i1Profiler, and Calibrite Profiler to achieve accurate color management. macOS is widely used in professional creative industries, and restoring this feature would be a huge help for countless photographers, designers, and colorists. Thank you for your attention and commitment to professional users. Best regards, Richárd Deutsch Professional Photographer https://riccio.hu/ MacBook Pro (M4 Pro, macOS 26.1)

Help Request! How to Render Models with SubMeshes Using Metal 4?
Hi, I'm Beginner with Metal 4 and Model I/O 🥺. I can render simple models with just one mesh, but when I try to render models with SubMeshes, nothing shows up on screen. Can anyone help me figure out how to properly render models with multiple submeshes? I think I'm not iterating through them correctly or maybe missing some buffers setup. Xcode compile stucks(stops) when add new source files or add functions to previous files
Hello, we are working on a iOS game project, as progress, the project grows larger and larger. Because we are using other game dependencies and libraries, here larger and larger refers to the whole project, and our source files integrated and compiled by Xcode are not many. Now, it seems we hit a bottleneck, when I add new files or functions to the previous files to implement a new feature, Xcode compile stucks(stops), it's Indexing | Initializing datastore forever, cannot produce a final build. macOS 15.1, Xcode 16.2 Can you provide any solutions to solve this problem? How to detect which entity was tapped?
Hi, I'm rewriting my game from SceneKit to RealityKit, and I'm having trouble implementing the following scenario: I tap on the iPhone screen to select an Entity that I want to drag. If an Entity was tapped, it should then be possible to drag it left, right, etc. SceneKit solution: func CGPointToSCNVector3(_ view: SCNView, depth: Float, point: CGPoint) -> SCNVector3 { let projectedOrigin = view.projectPoint(SCNVector3Make(0, 0, Float(depth))) let locationWithz = SCNVector3Make(Float(point.x), Float(point.y), Float(projectedOrigin.z)) return view.unprojectPoint(locationWithz) } and then I was calling: SCNView().hitTest(location, options: [SCNHitTestOption.firstFoundOnly:true]) the code was called inside of the UIPanGestureRecognizer in my UIViewController. Could I reuse that code or should I go with the SwiftUI approach - something like that: var body: some View { RealityView { .... } .gesture(TapGesture().onEnded { }) ? I already have this code: @State private var location: CGPoint? .onTapGesture { location in self.location = location } I'm trying to identify the entity that was tapped within the RealityView like that: RealityView { content in let box: ModelEntity = createBox() // for now there is only one box, however there will be many boxes content.add(box) let anchor = AnchorEntity(world: [0, 0, 0]) content.add(anchor) _ = content.subscribe(to: SceneEvents.Update.self) { event in //TODO: find tapped entity, so that it could be dragged inside of the DragGesture() } Any help would be appreciated. I also noticed that if I create a TapGesture like that: TapGesture(count: 1) .targetedToAnyEntity() and add it to my view using .gesture() then it is not triggered.

GameKit Configuration File - Apple Documentation out of Date
This is the first time I have tried adding achievements to my games. The online documentation says: "Before you can access achievements in your code, you can configure them in Xcode and sync the configuration updates you make with App Store Connect. Begin configuring achievements by creating a GameKit configuration file. In Xcode, choose File > New > File from Template. Select GameKit File, and click Next. In the sheet that appears, enter a name for the configuration and click Create." Sounds easy - except Xcode 16.2 does not have a GameKit File as one of the Templates. Please advise on how to proceed and it would be nice if the documentation were updated.

vImageConverter_CreateWithCGImageFormat Fails with kvImageInvalidImageFormat When Trying to Convert CMYK to RGB
So I get JPEG data in my app. Previously I was using the higher level NSBitmapImageRep API and just feeding the JPEG data to it. But now I've noticed on Sonoma If I get a JPEG in the CMYK color space the NSBitmapImageRep renders mostly black and is corrupted. So I'm trying to drop down to the lower level APIs. Specifically I grab a CGImageRef and and trying to use the Accelerate API to convert it to another format (to hopefully workaround the issue... CGImageRef sourceCGImage = `CGImageCreateWithJPEGDataProvider(jpegDataProvider,` NULL, shouldInterpolate, kCGRenderingIntentDefault); Now I use vImageConverter_CreateWithCGImageFormat... with the following values for source and destination formats: Source format: (derived from sourceCGImage) bitsPerComponent = 8 bitsPerPixel = 32 colorSpace = (kCGColorSpaceICCBased; kCGColorSpaceModelCMYK; Generic CMYK Profile) bitmapInfo = kCGBitmapByteOrderDefault version = 0 decode = 0x000060000147f780 renderingIntent = kCGRenderingIntentDefault Destination format: bitsPerComponent = 8 bitsPerPixel = 24 colorSpace = (DeviceRBG) bitmapInfo = 8197 version = 0 decode = 0x0000000000000000 renderingIntent = kCGRenderingIntentDefault But vImageConverter_CreateWithCGImageFormat fails with kvImageInvalidImageFormat. Now if I change the destination format to use 32 bitsPerpixel and use alpha in the bitmap info the vImageConverter_CreateWithCGImageFormat does not return an error but I get a black image just like NSBitmapImageRep

Does OLED burn-in affect iPad Pro displays, and should I implement a screen saver in my always-on app?

Testing Achievements - Apple Documentation out of Date
New to achievements. I added them in App Store Connect and want to test them. Apple Documentation says this: "Before you begin testing your GameKit configuration, you need to enable Debug Mode. In Xcode, choose Product > Scheme > Edit Scheme. From the Run configuration, select Options and toggle Enable Debug Mode. To begin testing your achievement configuration, open the game Progress Manager. In Xcode, choose Debug > GameKit > Manage Game Progress." Sounds easy enough, but there is no "GameKit" under Debug in Xcode 16.2.

Is there any future for screensavers on macOS?
I haven't been looking at screensavers for a long time because of Apple's lack of will (or resources?) to provide a public version of the private modern SDK used by Apple for a very long time now. I'm now looking at the Screen Saver pane in System Settings (the What-If version of System Preferences in an alternate universe where all screens are in portrait mode). In macOS Sequoia, it seems like 3rd party screensavers are not welcome considering that they are relegated to the "Other" section at the bottom of the list and you have to click Show All to start seeing 3rd party screen savers. I also had a quick look at macOS Tahoe Beta 3 and it looks like that all the real screensavers are gone (3rd party and the ones from Apple: Hello, Message, Flurry, etc.) or at least it requires to be a Nobel Prize to find them (and the Search field is not useful). I tried to install a 3rd party screen saver on macOS Tahoe Beta 3, it doesn't show up in the list. To summarize: No public access to modern APIs AFAIK. UI that is hostile to 3rd party screen savers on macOS Sequoia. Apparently only screensavers that are slideshows or movies curated by Apple in macOS Tahoe b3. Hence the question: Is there any future for screen savers on macOS? Because if there's none, I won't waste my time trying to update some old screen savers.

Now that SceneKit has been marked as soft deprecated, is there a planned date or timeframe when it will be completely removed from iOS? I’m concerned about how long my existing SceneKit-based game will continue to work, especially as an indie developer without the resources for a quick rewrite to RealityKit.

But I get the following error at the third step: Error Domain=AGXMetalG15X_M1 Code=2 "Undefined symbols: _Z5noisev, referenced from: OnTheFlyKernel " UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Undefined symbols: _Z5noisev, referenced from: OnTheFlyKernel } import Foundation import Metal class MetalShaderCompiler { let device = MTLCreateSystemDefaultDevice()! var pipeline: MTLComputePipelineState! func compileDylib() -> MTLDynamicLibrary { let source = """ #include <metal_stdlib> using namespace metal; half3 noise() { return half3(1, 0, 1); } """ let option = MTLCompileOptions() option.libraryType = .dynamic option.installName = "@executable_path/libFoundation.metallib" let library = try! device.makeLibrary(source: source, options: option) let dylib = try! device.makeDynamicLibrary(library: library) return dylib } func compileExlib(dylib: MTLDynamicLibrary) -> MTLLibrary { let source = """ #include <metal_stdlib> using namespace metal; extern half3 noise(); kernel void OnTheFlyKernel(texture2d<half, access::read> src [[texture(0)]], texture2d<half, access::write> dst [[texture(1)]], ushort2 gid [[thread_position_in_grid]]) { half4 rgba = src.read(gid); rgba.rgb += noise(); dst.write(rgba, gid); } """ let option = MTLCompileOptions() option.libraryType = .executable option.libraries = [dylib] let library = try! self.device.makeLibrary(source: source, options: option) return library } func runtime() { let dylib = self.compileDylib() let exlib = self.compileExlib(dylib: dylib) let pipelineDescriptor = MTLComputePipelineDescriptor() pipelineDescriptor.computeFunction = exlib.makeFunction(name: "OnTheFlyKernel") pipelineDescriptor.preloadedLibraries = [dylib] pipeline = try! device.makeComputePipelineState(descriptor: pipelineDescriptor, options: .bindingInfo, reflection: nil) } }

visionOS Immersive Environment Template
Hello, I created a new project with the provided template for Immersive Environments. Straight out of box I build to both the Simulator and to Vision Pro and the provided Environment looks like this. What's interesting is that in Reality Composer Pro, it looks correct so how do I achieve the same look? Thank you in advance!
