Upgrading iPhone test device to 18.7.2 breaks access to local network
I am working on a game app that uses multicast to advertise and locate a hosted game. It therefore requires local network permission. Entitlements are set up correctly in the app for using multicast. I have two iPhones I use for testing my app, one was using iOS 18.1.x (not exactly sure about the value of x) and the other was using a later version of 18. I install the app on these devices via TestFlight. On the device using iOS 18.1.x the networking worked perfectly, and I could host or join a game (connecting to the same app running on my mac). The device using the later version would fail to see advertised games as well as failing to advertise games itself. Updating this device to the latest iOS (18.7.2) did not fix the problem. To test that it is likely related to the later version of iOS, I updated the 18.1.x device that was working to 18.7.2, and now it does not work either. I could see the app listed under "Privacy and Security/Local Network" in settings on the device that used to work with 18.1.x, but not the device with the later version of iOS . Now it does not show up on either device. Nor does either device ask for permission when I activate a network game on the app, even after repeatedly deleting and reinstalling the app as well as resetting the devices. Why does the device not ask for permission when I try to set up a network game, and how can I get this working again?

Should NEVPNConnection's startVPNTunnel() throw if no network?
I've noticed that if a call to startVPNTunnel() is made while no network interface is active on the system, the call "succeeds" (i.e., doesn't throw), but the VPN connection state goes straight from NEVPNStatus.disconnecting to NEVPNStatus.disconnected. The docs for startVPNTunnel() state: In Swift, this method returns Void and is marked with the throws keyword to indicate that it throws an error in cases of failure. Additionally, there is an NEVPNConnectionError enum that contains a noNetworkAvailable case. However, this isn't thrown in this case, when startVPNTunnel() is called. I just wanted to ask under what circumstances startVPNTunnel() does throw, and should this be one of them? Additionally, to catch such errors, would it be better to call fetchLastDisconnectError() in the .NEVPNStatusDidChange handler?

Why nslookup dns queries not routed to NETransparentProxyProvider
I’m using an NETransparentProxyProvider where I add UDP-53 rules to intercept DNS queries from a private application. These queries are resolved locally on the endpoint by returning a custom DNS response. Example Rules look like this: NENetworkRule(destinationHost: NWHostEndpoint(hostname: "mypaapp.com", port: 53),protocol:.UDP) This works as expected through browser and ping. handleNewUDPFlow/handleNewFlow with NEAppProxyUDPFlow gets called where custom dns response get written. Using nslookup mypaapp.com doesn't works. Why does this behaves differently for nslookup?

How to develop system extension if System Integrity Protection is enabled?
Hi I am developing the packet tunnel extension on a SIP enabled device. If I build the app and notarize and install it on the device, it works fine. If I modify, build and execute the App (which contains the system extension), it fails with below error. 102.3.1.4 is production build. And 201.202.0.101 is for XCode build. SystemExtension "<<complete name>>.pkttunnel" request for replacement from 102.3.1.4 to 201.202.0.101 Packet Tunnel SystemExtension "<<complete name>>.pkttunnel" activation request did fail: Error Domain=OSSystemExtensionErrorDomain Code=8 "(null)" If SIP is disabled, it works fine. Is there a way the system extension can be developed even if SIP remains enabled?

Custom VPN - Bind interface to Cellular
I'm creating a custom VPN app which should only work on Cellular. Apart from cellular interface binding VPN is working fine. Even though I specified cellular interface like let cellularParams = NWParameters.udp cellularParams.requiredInterfaceType = .cellular It is going via Wifi when it is ON. I know this is the default iOS behaviour. How can I prevent this and route through cellular only even when Wifi is enabled on device?

New developer question - exporting Apple Watch data to central server
This is probably a basic question but I wanted to ask your advice for the best way to take consenting users' Watch data from Apple Health Kit and send it to our central server? One idea we had was to create an iOS app that gets the data from Apple's Health SDK on the phone and sends it to our server. Would appreciate any help here, thank you.

Local Wi-Fi UDP discovery works in Debug but stops working in TestFlight (React Native app)
Hi everyone, I am building a React Native iOS app that discovers audio devices on the local Wi-Fi network using UDP broadcast + mDNS/Bonjour lookup (similar to the “4Stream” app). The app works 100% perfectly in Debug mode when installed directly from Xcode. But once I upload it to TestFlight, the local-network features stop working completely: UDP packets never arrive Device discovery does not work Bonjour/mDNS lookup returns nothing Same phone, same Wi-Fi, same code → only Debug works, TestFlight fails react-native-udp for UDP broadcast react-native-dns-lookup for resolving hostnames react-native-xml2js for parsing device responses

How to stop or disable Network Extension without removing
I develop a Network Extension with NEFilterDataProvider and want to understand how to stop or disable it on exit of the base app without deactivating NE from OS and leave ability to start it again without requiring a password from the user. It starts normally, but when I try to disable it: NEFilterManager.sharedManager.enabled = NO; [NEFilterManager.sharedManager saveToPreferencesWithCompletionHandler:^(NSError * _Nullable error) { // never called }]; the completion handler has never called. But stopFilterWithReason inside the NE code called by the framework where I only replay with required completionHandler();. Then NE process keeps alive. I also tried to call remove, which should disable NE: [NEFilterManager.sharedManager removeFromPreferencesWithCompletionHandler:^(NSError * _Nullable error) { // never called }]; with same result - I freeze forever on waiting completion handler. So what is the correct way to disable NE without explicit deactivation it by [OSSystemExtensionRequest deactivationRequestForExtension:...]?

How do I force Safari to authorise these local network access requests if it won't trigger the permission dialogue? Is there a specific WKWebView configuration or Safari-specific header required to satisfy this security check?

Upgrading NEFilterDataProvider Causes System Network Interruption
Hi, when I perform an overlay installation via a PKG on macOS for an application containing the NEFilterDataProvider functionality, there is a chance that the entire system network becomes unreachable. Disabling the corresponding Content Filter in "System Settings > Network > Filters" immediately restores network connectivity. This issue does not occur every time, with a frequency of approximately 1 in 20 installation attempts. The following details may help identify the problem: The Filter.app containing the NEFilterDataProvider resides within the main app's Resources directory, e.g., /Applications/Main.app/Contents/Resources/Filter.app Main.app is installed via a PKG; the issue typically occurs during an overlay installation of Main.app. The NEFilterDataProvider operates as a System Extension. The func handleNewFlow(_ flow: NEFilterFlow) -> NEFilterNewFlowVerdict {} returns .allow. Wireshark packet captures show TCP packets but no UDP packets; TCP handshakes cannot complete. Disabling the corresponding content filter in "System Settings > Network > Filters" restores the network; re-enabling it breaks connectivity again. After waiting for a period, approximately 30-60 minutes, network connectivity can recover automatically. What causes this and how can it be fixed? Any workarounds?

APN configuration via Device Manager Platform
I have a question. I work for a mobile operator, and when you insert the SIM, the default APN is automatically configured. However, afterward, using the internal Device Manager platform, we send the corresponding APN of an MVNO to that MSISDN. However, the iPhone device (any model, recent iOS versions) receives the notification of the APN change, but it doesn't reflect the change in the APN settings menu. Do you know how we could make the iPhone device reflect the APN change?

How to Access WiFi Connection Channel in iOS App?
Hi everyone, I'm developing an enterprise iOS application and need to access the WiFi connection channel. I understand that Apple's privacy and security policies restrict direct access to certain network details, including the WiFi connection channel. After some research, I found that this data might be accessible via the private API MobileWiFi.framework. However, when I tried to use this framework, I encountered the following error: Missing com.apple.wifi.manager-access entitlement I reached out to Apple regarding this entitlement, but they were not familiar with it, suggesting it might be deprecated. Here are my questions: Is there an official or supported way to access the WiFi connection channel in an enterprise iOS app? If not, is there any workaround or additional steps required to use the MobileWiFi.framework without encountering the entitlement error? Are there any specific entitlements or provisioning profile configurations that I need to be aware of to resolve this issue? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

iOS 26 Network Framework APIs with QUIC
Hello, I have a peer to peer networking setup in my app that uses Network Framework with Bonjour and QUIC via NWBrowser, NWListener, NWConnection, and NWEndpoint and all works as expected. I watched the videos about the new iOS 26 Networking stuff (NetworkBrowser, NetworkListener, NetworkConnection) and wanted to try and migrate all my code to use the the new APIs (still use Bonjour and NOT use Wi-Fi Aware) but hit some issues. I was following how the Wi-Fi Aware example app was receiving messages for try await messageData in connection.messages { but when I got things setup with QUIC in a similar fashion I got the following compile error Requirement from conditional conformance of '(content: QUIC.ContentType, metadata: QUIC.Metadata)' to 'Copyable' Requirement from conditional conformance of '(content: QUIC.ContentType, metadata: QUIC.Metadata)' to 'Escapable' Requirement from conditional conformance of '(content: QUIC.ContentType, metadata: QUIC.Metadata)' to 'Copyable' Requirement from conditional conformance of '(content: QUIC.ContentType, metadata: QUIC.Metadata)' to 'Escapable' When I asked Cursor about what I was facing its response was as follows: "The connection.messages stream changed in the new Network APIs: it now yields typed (content, metadata) tuples. Iterating with for try await incoming in connection.messages asks the compiler to conform that tuple to Copyable/Escapable; for QUIC the tuple isn’t copyable, so you hit the conditional-conformance error." I am curious if you've been able to use the new iOS 26 network APIs with QUIC? Thank you, Captadoh

How to Keep Cellular Data Active While Connected to a Local Hotspot for File Transfer?
Hi all, I’m developing a companion iOS app that connects to a device-created Wi-Fi hotspot to transfer videos or other files WebSocket. The challenge is: once the iPhone connects to this hotspot, it loses internet access because iOS routes all traffic through Wi-Fi. However, I’d like to keep the iPhone’s cellular data active and usable while staying connected to the local hotspot — so the app can access cloud APIs, or the user can continue using other apps that require internet access. I understand that iOS prioritizes Wi-Fi over cellular, but are there any supported workarounds or patterns (e.g., MFi programs, local-only Wi-Fi access, NEHotspotConfiguration behavior, etc.) that : • Using Wi-Fi only for local communication; • cellular to remain active for internet access. Any insights or Apple-recommended best practices would be greatly appreciated — especially any official references regarding MFi Accessory setup or NEHotspotConfiguration behavior in this context. Thanks in !

NEURLFilterManager Error 2 in macOS - How to Validate Configuration Parameters for setConfiguration or saveToPreferences
I'm currently testing URLFilter for use in a macOS product. After calling loadFromPreferences, I set the following configuration parameters: pirServerURL = URL(string: "http://localhost:8080")! pirAuthenticationToken = "AAAA" controlProviderBundleIdentifier = "{extension app bundle identifier}" However, when I call saveToPreferences, I get an Invalid Configuration error. Is there a way to determine which parameter is invalid or incorrectly set? Also, I would appreciate any macOS-specific examples of using NEURLFilterManager, as most of the documentation I’ve found seems to focus on iOS. Thank you.

NEPacketTunnelProvider entitlement conflict: App Store validation vs runtime “permission denied” (Code 5/10)
I’m building a Personal VPN app (non-MDM) that uses a NEPacketTunnelProvider extension for content filtering and blocking. When configuring the VPN locally using NETunnelProviderManager.saveToPreferences, the call fails with: Error Domain=NEConfigurationErrorDomain Code=10 "permission denied" Error Domain=NEVPNErrorDomain Code=5 "permission denied" The system does prompt for VPN permission (“Would Like to Add VPN Configurations”), but the error still occurs after the user allows it. Setup: • Main App ID – com.promisecouple.app • Extension ID – com.promisecouple.app.PromiseVPN • Capabilities – App Group + Personal VPN + Network Extensions • Main app entitlements:   com.apple.developer.networking.vpn.api = allow-vpn   com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension = packet-tunnel-provider • Extension entitlements: same + shared App Group Problem: • If I remove the networkextension entitlement, the app runs locally without the Code 5 error. • But App Store Connect then rejects the build with: Missing Entitlement: The bundle 'Promise.app' is missing entitlement 'com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension'. Question: What is the correct entitlement configuration for a Personal VPN app using NEPacketTunnelProvider (non-MDM)? Is com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension required on the main app or only on the extension? Why does including it cause saveToPreferences → Code 5/10 “permission denied” on device? Environment: Xcode 26.1 (17B55), iOS 17.3+ on physical device (non-MDM) Both provisioning profiles and certificates are valid.
