Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors

November 15, 2023

A regular meeting of the Python Software Foundation ("PSF") Board of Directors was held over Group Conference Call via phone and Internet Relay Chat/Slack beginning at 13:00 UTC, on November 15, 2023. Olivia Sauls took notes/minutes.

All votes are reported in the form "Y-N-A" (in favor-Y‚opposed-N‚abstentions-A; e.g. "5-1-2" means "5 in favor, 1 opposed, and 2 abstentions").

1   Attendance

The following members of the Board of Directors (10 of 12) were present at the meeting: Deb Nicholson, Débora Azevedom, Jannis Leidel, Tania Allard, Denny Perez, Cheuk Ting Ho, Christopher Neugebauer, Georgi Ker, Kwon-Han Bae. Dawn Wages joined at 14:22 UTC.

Chloe Gerhardson (Infrastructure Engineer), Marie Nordin (Community Communications Manager), Loren Crarey (Dir of Resource Development), Mike Fiedler (PyPI Safety and Security Engineer) , Joe Carey (Accounting Manager), Ee Durbin (Dir of Infrastructure), Laura Graves (Senior Accountant), Seth Larson (Python Security Developer in Residence), Olivia Sauls (Program Director) were also in attendance. 3   Board and Staff Monthly Reports for November 2023

3.1   Deb Nicholson

  • Staffing
    • We've sent contracts out for both the Deputy Developer in Residence and a Supporting Developer in Residence
    • The staff will be on retreat the week after Thanksgiving so the office is essentially closed Nov. 27th - Dec. 1st
  • Funding
    • The Request for Information was sent in, we're joining lots of other very interesting proposals
    • Marie is taking the lead on the year-end fundraiser work
  • PyCon US
    • Very excited to have Marisa on and integrated with the planning this year
  • ED Travel
    • I keynoted SeaGL in early November and got to speak with contacts and CISA and UW
    • I keynoted PyCon Sweden in last week and met lots of lovely community members from the area
    • I'll be attending a single day event with the Community Data Science Collective
    • Planned our Malmo Board retreat for January
  • Program and Policy Work
    • Continuing to participate in discussions around CRA and PLD
    • Have started meeting with Open SSF's ED and attending the Associate Members meetings
    • Endorsing a data collection project with Apereo to learn more about how open source is used on campuses, including how much Python is there
    • Exploring an opportunity with University of Washington to seek funding to study decision making and prioritization in open source projects

3.2   Oliva Sauls

  • Continued onboarding with the Community Events Coordinator
  • Launched PyCon US 2024 website and Call for Proposal
  • Continued working with designer on PyCon US 2024 conference design
  • Preparing for PyCon US 2024 site visit at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA
