In Safari's JavaScript geolocation, is altitude based on MSL or WGS84 ellipsoid?
Hello all, I'm trying to retrieve geolocation data on the web, but I'm having trouble with the altitude value, which seems to differ from what I get on Android. Issue with External Browser on Sign In (Privy SDK limitation)
Hello Apple App Review Team, We are using Privy to enable sign in with Farcaster in our app. Privy is a 3rd party authentication SDK, and it currently opens the authentication URL using the system browser. Unfortunately, this behavior is handled internally by Privy and we do not have access or control to override it in order to present the sign-in flow in-app using SFSafariViewController. We understand the importance of maintaining a seamless and secure user experience, and we fully support the use of SFSafariViewController or ASWebAuthenticationSession. However, since Privy does not expose an option to change this behavior at the moment, we are limited by their current implementation. We have reached out to the Privy team requesting a change or improvement that would allow us to use SFSafariViewController instead of the external browser. In the meantime, we would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed, or whether an exception could be granted due to this 3rd party SDK limitation. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Cookie Missing After App Upgrade During OAuth Consent Flow on iOS (Safari ITP?)
Scenario Overview: In our app, we open an in-app browser to complete a third-party consent flow. The sequence is: App → Website A (set cookie and redirect) → Google → Website A (check cookie) → App After upgrading the app, the first consent attempt fails because the cookie cannot be written, causing the check cookie step to fail. However, if we use the native Safari browser, this issue does not occur. Passkey authentication issues on iPhone when launching login pages via Home Screen shortcuts
Summary: We are facing a serious issue on iPhone where multiple passkey authentication problems occur when accessing passkey-enabled login pages via shortcuts placed on the iPhone Home Screen. These issues may also occur when opening the same pages directly in a standard browser window. However, launching the login pages from a Home Screen shortcut appears to increase the likelihood of encountering these issues. Affected Services (examples, not exhaustive): Amazon GitHub Adobe Observed Issues: Issue 1: A passkey authentication dialog/popup shows two times without any user operation: What happens due to this issue: Login does not complete after the first passkey authentication. A second passkey authentication UI automatically appears. Completing or canceling the second authentication allows the login to proceed. Issue 2: Login remains stuck until the user manually invokes passkey again What happens due to this issue: The login page does not advance after the first authentication. The user must tap the ID/username field again to manually trigger the passkey UI. Completing the second authentication enables login. Issue 3: Automatic second authentication occurs, but login still fails What happens due to this issue: A second automatic authentication UI appears. Login still does not complete. Tapping the ID field no longer opens the passkey UI; instead, the password auto-fill panel appears. Passkey login becomes impossible. Observed reproduction steps (not guaranteed but most consistently observed): On iPhone, navigate to a passkey-enabled login page (e.g., Amazon, GitHub, Adobe) using a browser. Create a shortcut from the browser's share menu and place it on the Home Screen. Launch the login page from the Home Screen shortcut. Tap the ID/username field to invoke the passkey prompt. Extension in Safari Fails Auth in Non-Default Profile When Using Cookie-Based Mechanism
Hello, We are developing a Safari Web Extension that uses a cookie-based authentication mechanism. The extension makes a request to an endpoint e.g. /login, and this endpoint expects a cookie (e.g., sessionId) to be included with the request. Everything works correctly when running in the default Safari profile. However, when I install and run the same extension in a new, non-default profile, the behaviour changes: The request to /login is still made The cookie sent is not as expected As a result, the response returns null user data I confirmed that logging into the site in the new profile (in a tab) works, but the extension does not appear to share the session/cookie state with the login tab We’ve tried explicitly setting "credentials": "include" in the request but that still didn’t share the cookie in the extension context in the non-default profile. My questions: Is there away to allow cookie-based session sharing between a tab and an extension in non-default profiles in safari? Would switching to a token-based auth mechanism (e.g., Bearer tokens ) be the recommended workaround? I’d appreciate any insights or guidance from those who’ve run into similar issues.

WKWebView ignores upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS = false on iOS 18.x (Xcode 16.x) but works on iOS 17.x (Xcode 15.x)
Hello, We are experiencing a behavior change with WKWebView related to upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS. Current application, we explicitly disable automatic HTTPS upgrades: let config = WKWebViewConfiguration() config.upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS = false Observed behavior iOS 17.5 (built with Xcode 15.3) http:// image URLs are not automatically upgraded to https://, and the behavior works as expected. iOS 18.5 / 18.6.x (built with Xcode 16.4) http:// image URLs appear to be automatically upgraded to https:// by WebKit, even when upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS is explicitly set to false. This behavior occurs for subresource requests such as <img src="http://..."> inside a WKWebView. Question Has the behavior of upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS changed in iOS 18 / Xcode 16? Is this property now ignored for certain types of subresource requests (e.g. images), or overridden by new WebKit security policies such as mixed-content HTTPS upgrades? AdTag URL - on learn more action - Redirects to External Safari Browser - Need to lock orientation to Portrait Mode
We’re currently working on an OTT-based application where we integrate Google Ad Manager to serve video ads. As part of the ad experience, users often see a “Learn More” CTA (Call to Action) on these ads. As per our current requirement, when a user taps “Learn More” on an ad: • The link should open in Safari (i.e., an external browser) on iOS devices • The Safari browser should ideally open in portrait orientation, as the ad content and layout are optimised for portrait mode However, based on our understanding and technical constraints on iOS, it appears that: • Orientation control is restricted to the app’s own context. • Once Safari is launched via UIApplication.shared.open, we no longer have control over how it behaves in terms of orientation. • iOS system behaviour determines Safari’s orientation based on the device’s physical orientation and Safari’s own internal configuration. Could you please confirm if there’s any supported way (via SDK, deep link config, or otherwise) to enforce portrait orientation in Safari when opening such external URLs from within an iOS app? If this is not technically feasible, we would appreciate any best practices or alternatives you can suggest for ensuring a consistent user experience.

Safari Does Not Include topOrigin in WebAuthn clientDataJSON Despite crossOrigin: true

According to the WebAuthn Level 3 spec (Section 7.1.1), when crossOrigin is true, the clientDataJSON may include topOrigin—but Safari does not seem to populate this field. Observed Behavior: Chrome/Firefox: Include topOrigin in clientDataJSON when crossOrigin: true. Safari (macOS/iOS): Omits topOrigin even though crossOrigin is correctly set to true. Safari Extension: Cookie Header Missing in Background Fetch from Non-Default User Profile (Works in Default Profile)
When our Safari Web Extension makes a api request from its background script (registered via "scripts" in manifest.json, e.g., "background": { "scripts": ["js/background.bundle.js"] }) to our authenticated API endpoint (https://api-domain/user), the Cookie header is not included in the request. This occurs only when the extension is running within a non-default Safari User Profile. This causes our API to treat the user as unauthenticated. The exact same extension code, manifest, and API call work correctly (Cookie header is present and user is authenticated) when the extension is running in the Default Safari User Profile.

Automating closing of iCloud Tab?
I would like to script my Mac to close a specific iCloud Tab of my choice that is open on my iPhone. This is for Accessibility reasons. Ideally, I’d prefer to do this without using GUI scripting. AppleScript methods only seem to see tabs in Windows Extensions also do not seem to have visibility of the other types of tabs I've tried many options so far, but all seem to not work and are also far too brittle even if they did. I have a feeling I'm missing something! 1. Toolbar Dropdown In Desktop Safari you can enable a toolbar button “iCloud Tabs” which when clicked shows a list of the tabs currently open on your other devices. If you hover one, an X appears which can be clicked to close the tab. When you next use Safari on the remote device that tab will be closed. If it’s already open and awake then the removal happens around one second later. It’s quick. (But I did try GUI scripting and I can get to the row in the outline in the popup, but I can’t get the cross to appear to click it) 2. Start Page they’re also listed on favorites:// “start page” but there are issues viewing all and no way to search them. There used to be a search field until Safari ~15. 3. Omnibar They’re also shown in omni/address bar, but getting the correct item to appear at all or in a predictable position is fragile. 4. Sidebar Another alternative to the favorites/"start page" layout. Same issues. 5. Modifying Safari Database directly Changes are not mirrored to the cloud. It seems Safari does a cloudd request that I can't do.

Safari-only layout regression with ad iframe content: inline wrapper + inline-block ad creates extra vertical spacing
Observed versions: Reproduced on Tahoe / Safari 26 and iOS 26 Safari. Not reproduced on v18 Safari. Not reproduced in Chrome with the same reduced test setup. We are seeing a Safari-only rendering issue affecting an ad creative inside an iframe on both desktop Safari and iOS Safari. What we observe: The issue is reproducible in Safari on OS X and iOS v26. We do not reproduce it in Chrome with the same test setup. We can reproduce it in a minimal test case, outside our site app code. The issue appears tied to the rendered iframe document/layout, not our outer page layout. In the test code you will only notice an added top spacing, but when rendered in a live ad, the bottom gets cut off. A few details that may help: If we manually change the inner ins.dcmads from display:inline-block to display:inline, or adding overflow:hidden, the spacing issue goes away. If the loader script is moved outside the ins during manual experimentation, the issue also goes away. This makes it look like a Safari layout/rendering issue involving an inline wrapper around an inline-block ad container during script-driven rendering. Questions: Is this a known Safari/WebKit layout issue involving inline + inline-block content in iframe documents? Has there been any recent Safari/WebKit change that could affect this rendering path? Is there a preferred reduced repro format for reporting layout issues like this?

Safari 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 Download Issue in AngularJS Application
We are encountering a download issue in Safari 18.2 on macOS Sequoia 15.2 where file downloads initiated by our AngularJS application (such as Excel exports) are silently blocked. There are no errors in the browser console, and the download does not occur. Interestingly, after testing on Safari 18.3 with Sequoia 15.3, the downloads worked as expected. However, the problem reappeared on Safari 18.4 with Sequoia 15.4. We suspect that recent changes in Safari’s security or download handling may be preventing downloads triggered via asynchronous JavaScript (e.g., AJAX calls) that are not initiated directly by user interaction. We would appreciate any insights, suggestions, or possible workarounds from the community. Looking forward to your guidance on this matter.

All protocols are http. This problem does not occur if the URL is specified as an IP address, but it does occur if the host name is specified as. Inquiry Regarding Vertical Writing Mode Caret Issues in Safari on iOS
Dear Apple Developer Support, We are currently developing a system that requires the ability to edit Japanese vertical text within the Safari browser on iPhone. During our investigation, we encountered an issue that matches the following WebKit bug: 283620 – Caret Positioning Issues in Vertical Writing Mode We understand that this issue is being addressed in the following pull request: https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/pull/39939 However, it appears that a complete fix has not yet been implemented. Given this situation, we would like to confirm the following: Is there any known workaround for this issue in iOS 17.5 or iOS 18.5 (the latest versions as of now)? If a workaround exists, could you please provide details? If not, could you share the expected timeline for a full resolution of this issue? Follow-up: Programmatically detecting "Allow in Private Browsing" for Safari App Extensions
I am following up on Thread (https://aninterestingwebsite.com/forums/thread/733233). Currently, SFSafariExtensionManager.getStateOfSafariExtension only returns if an extension is enabled, but not if "Allow in Private Browsing" is toggled on. Is there an API in macOS 26 and Safari 19 that allows a native Safari App Extension to detect this specific permission?

Issue with External Browser on Sign In (Privy SDK limitation)
Hello Apple App Review Team, We are using Privy to enable sign in with Farcaster in our app. Privy is a 3rd party authentication SDK, and it currently opens the authentication URL using the system browser. Unfortunately, this behavior is handled internally by Privy and we do not have access or control to override it in order to present the sign-in flow in-app using SFSafariViewController. We understand the importance of maintaining a seamless and secure user experience, and we fully support the use of SFSafariViewController or ASWebAuthenticationSession. However, since Privy does not expose an option to change this behavior at the moment, we are limited by their current implementation. We have reached out to the Privy team requesting a change or improvement that would allow us to use SFSafariViewController instead of the external browser. In the meantime, we would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed, or whether an exception could be granted due to this 3rd party SDK limitation. Thank you for your understanding and support.

The sequence is: App → Website A (set cookie and redirect) → Google → Website A (check cookie) → App After upgrading the app, the first consent attempt fails because the cookie cannot be written, causing the check cookie step to fail. However, if we use the native Safari browser, this issue does not occur. Passkey authentication issues on iPhone when launching login pages via Home Screen shortcuts
Summary: We are facing a serious issue on iPhone where multiple passkey authentication problems occur when accessing passkey-enabled login pages via shortcuts placed on the iPhone Home Screen. These issues may also occur when opening the same pages directly in a standard browser window. However, launching the login pages from a Home Screen shortcut appears to increase the likelihood of encountering these issues. Affected Services (examples, not exhaustive): Amazon GitHub Adobe Observed Issues: Issue 1: A passkey authentication dialog/popup shows two times without any user operation: What happens due to this issue: Login does not complete after the first passkey authentication. A second passkey authentication UI automatically appears. Completing or canceling the second authentication allows the login to proceed. Issue 2: Login remains stuck until the user manually invokes passkey again What happens due to this issue: The login page does not advance after the first authentication. The user must tap the ID/username field again to manually trigger the passkey UI. Completing the second authentication enables login. Issue 3: Automatic second authentication occurs, but login still fails What happens due to this issue: A second automatic authentication UI appears. Login still does not complete. Tapping the ID field no longer opens the passkey UI; instead, the password auto-fill panel appears. Passkey login becomes impossible. Observed reproduction steps (not guaranteed but most consistently observed): On iPhone, navigate to a passkey-enabled login page (e.g., Amazon, GitHub, Adobe) using a browser. Create a shortcut from the browser's share menu and place it on the Home Screen. Launch the login page from the Home Screen shortcut. Tap the ID/username field to invoke the passkey prompt. Extension in Safari Fails Auth in Non-Default Profile When Using Cookie-Based Mechanism
Hello, We are developing a Safari Web Extension that uses a cookie-based authentication mechanism. The extension makes a request to an endpoint e.g. /login, and this endpoint expects a cookie (e.g., sessionId) to be included with the request. Everything works correctly when running in the default Safari profile. However, when I install and run the same extension in a new, non-default profile, the behaviour changes: The request to /login is still made The cookie sent is not as expected As a result, the response returns null user data I confirmed that logging into the site in the new profile (in a tab) works, but the extension does not appear to share the session/cookie state with the login tab We’ve tried explicitly setting "credentials": "include" in the request but that still didn’t share the cookie in the extension context in the non-default profile. My questions: Is there away to allow cookie-based session sharing between a tab and an extension in non-default profiles in safari? Would switching to a token-based auth mechanism (e.g., Bearer tokens ) be the recommended workaround? I’d appreciate any insights or guidance from those who’ve run into similar issues.

WKWebView ignores upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS = false on iOS 18.x (Xcode 16.x) but works on iOS 17.x (Xcode 15.x)
Hello, We are experiencing a behavior change with WKWebView related to upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS. Current application, we explicitly disable automatic HTTPS upgrades: let config = WKWebViewConfiguration() config.upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS = false Observed behavior iOS 17.5 (built with Xcode 15.3) http:// image URLs are not automatically upgraded to https://, and the behavior works as expected. iOS 18.5 / 18.6.x (built with Xcode 16.4) http:// image URLs appear to be automatically upgraded to https:// by WebKit, even when upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS is explicitly set to false. This behavior occurs for subresource requests such as <img src="http://..."> inside a WKWebView. Question Has the behavior of upgradeKnownHostsToHTTPS changed in iOS 18 / Xcode 16? Is this property now ignored for certain types of subresource requests (e.g. images), or overridden by new WebKit security policies such as mixed-content HTTPS upgrades? We’re currently working on an OTT-based application where we integrate Google Ad Manager to serve video ads. As part of the ad experience, users often see a “Learn More” CTA (Call to Action) on these ads. As per our current requirement, when a user taps “Learn More” on an ad: • The link should open in Safari (i.e., an external browser) on iOS devices • The Safari browser should ideally open in portrait orientation, as the ad content and layout are optimised for portrait mode However, based on our understanding and technical constraints on iOS, it appears that: • Orientation control is restricted to the app’s own context. • Once Safari is launched via UIApplication.shared.open, we no longer have control over how it behaves in terms of orientation. • iOS system behaviour determines Safari’s orientation based on the device’s physical orientation and Safari’s own internal configuration. Could you please confirm if there’s any supported way (via SDK, deep link config, or otherwise) to enforce portrait orientation in Safari when opening such external URLs from within an iOS app? If this is not technically feasible, we would appreciate any best practices or alternatives you can suggest for ensuring a consistent user experience.

Safari Extension: Cookie Header Missing in Background Fetch from Non-Default User Profile (Works in Default Profile)
When our Safari Web Extension makes a api request from its background script (registered via "scripts" in manifest.json, e.g., "background": { "scripts": ["js/background.bundle.js"] }) to our authenticated API endpoint (https://api-domain/user), the Cookie header is not included in the request. This occurs only when the extension is running within a non-default Safari User Profile. This causes our API to treat the user as unauthenticated. The exact same extension code, manifest, and API call work correctly (Cookie header is present and user is authenticated) when the extension is running in the Default Safari User Profile.

Automating closing of iCloud Tab?
I would like to script my Mac to close a specific iCloud Tab of my choice that is open on my iPhone. This is for Accessibility reasons. Ideally, I’d prefer to do this without using GUI scripting. AppleScript methods only seem to see tabs in Windows Extensions also do not seem to have visibility of the other types of tabs I've tried many options so far, but all seem to not work and are also far too brittle even if they did. I have a feeling I'm missing something! 1. Toolbar Dropdown In Desktop Safari you can enable a toolbar button “iCloud Tabs” which when clicked shows a list of the tabs currently open on your other devices. If you hover one, an X appears which can be clicked to close the tab. When you next use Safari on the remote device that tab will be closed. If it’s already open and awake then the removal happens around one second later. It’s quick. (But I did try GUI scripting and I can get to the row in the outline in the popup, but I can’t get the cross to appear to click it) 2. Start Page they’re also listed on favorites:// “start page” but there are issues viewing all and no way to search them. There used to be a search field until Safari ~15. 3. Omnibar They’re also shown in omni/address bar, but getting the correct item to appear at all or in a predictable position is fragile. 4. Sidebar Another alternative to the favorites/"start page" layout. Same issues. 5. Modifying Safari Database directly Changes are not mirrored to the cloud. It seems Safari does a cloudd request that I can't do.

Safari-only layout regression with ad iframe content: inline wrapper + inline-block ad creates extra vertical spacing
Observed versions: Reproduced on Tahoe / Safari 26 and iOS 26 Safari. Not reproduced on v18 Safari. Not reproduced in Chrome with the same reduced test setup. We are seeing a Safari-only rendering issue affecting an ad creative inside an iframe on both desktop Safari and iOS Safari. What we observe: The issue is reproducible in Safari on OS X and iOS v26. We do not reproduce it in Chrome with the same test setup. We can reproduce it in a minimal test case, outside our site app code. The issue appears tied to the rendered iframe document/layout, not our outer page layout. In the test code you will only notice an added top spacing, but when rendered in a live ad, the bottom gets cut off. A few details that may help: If we manually change the inner ins.dcmads from display:inline-block to display:inline, or adding overflow:hidden, the spacing issue goes away. If the loader script is moved outside the ins during manual experimentation, the issue also goes away. This makes it look like a Safari layout/rendering issue involving an inline wrapper around an inline-block ad container during script-driven rendering. Questions: Is this a known Safari/WebKit layout issue involving inline + inline-block content in iframe documents? Has there been any recent Safari/WebKit change that could affect this rendering path? Is there a preferred reduced repro format for reporting layout issues like this?

Safari 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 Download Issue in AngularJS Application
We are encountering a download issue in Safari 18.2 on macOS Sequoia 15.2 where file downloads initiated by our AngularJS application (such as Excel exports) are silently blocked. There are no errors in the browser console, and the download does not occur. Interestingly, after testing on Safari 18.3 with Sequoia 15.3, the downloads worked as expected. However, the problem reappeared on Safari 18.4 with Sequoia 15.4. We suspect that recent changes in Safari’s security or download handling may be preventing downloads triggered via asynchronous JavaScript (e.g., AJAX calls) that are not initiated directly by user interaction. Follow-up: Programmatically detecting "Allow in Private Browsing" for Safari App Extensions
I am following up on Thread (https://aninterestingwebsite.com/forums/thread/733233). Currently, SFSafariExtensionManager.getStateOfSafariExtension only returns if an extension is enabled, but not if "Allow in Private Browsing" is toggled on. Is there an API in macOS 26 and Safari 19 that allows a native Safari App Extension to detect this specific permission?
