Hey Guys My PWA video playback and even youtube videos stopped working after updating iOS to 26.0.1. The video thumnails appear fine and if i try to play the video, it remains stuck. If i restart the phone, the video plays for a second in the PWA and then stops again and entire app gets stuck. Request apple team to fix this issue at the earliest. This is hampering all my iOS users who install the PWA on their device homescreen and use it as app. FYI strangely EVERYTHING WORKS FINE ON iOS SAFARI browser including videos playback If i open it as a web app. so this seems like a specific PWA issue on latest ios 26.0.1

Is ServiceWorker supported on WKWebView? As per Mozilla Developer Network(MDN Web) docs[1] its not supported, but our research shows that ServiceWorker becomes available for a domain in WKWebView 1) if the domain is allowlisted in app-bound domains[2] or 2) if app is registered as default browser(this can not be considered for our app as its not a browser). How to enable ServiceWorker on WKWebView? Is adding domain as app-bound domain the right/only way to enable ServiceWorker on WKWebView? We didn't find any official documentation about this. Can WebView get ServiceWorker support by default without enabling app bound domains since that is not an option for our app? Our app needs to support more than 10 domains. Powerful APIs such as JavaScript injection, cookie manipulation, event handlers are by default available to all domains/WebView instances even if App doesn't enable app-bound domains. Is it possible to do same for ServiceWorker? If ServiceWorker can not be supported by default then can Apple provide a feature by which ServiceWorker will be enabled in App for all the domains? Apple enforces maximum of 10 app-bound domains. Is it possible to remove this limit and provide a way to dynamically add to this list at the time of a request? The issue of fixed elements with { bottom: 0 } moving up when scrolling still persists. It seems to be a general issue with the IOS 26 release. It affects other browser too. I tested on browsers such as Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Bravo. With the exception of Edge, all the others display the behavior. Device: iPhone 15 Pro IOS Version: 26.0.1

I'm a web developer of WebRTC based web app for video and audio calls. After updating to iOS 26.1 beta I noticed, that my app can't use microphone anymore. When I'm calling to getUserMedia with audio set to true, Safari returns error "No AVAudioSessionCaptureDevice device". Other WebRTC demo apps also can't access microphone on this firmware. And maybe it's connected somehow, but safari can't detect connected AirPods Pro 2 as an input device. So, this bug brakes any WebRTC app, that uses microphones.

This is my first post, so please forgive me if it is to the wrong area. I've been using Tahoe for a few days and, overall, it's very stable. But the one thing that has bothered me to no end is Safari's new behavior with respect to its header (Address bar, Favorite bookmarks bar, tab bar) background color. The web content of the active tab seems to affect everything - and oftentimes makes things completely unreadable - at least in "Dark" mode. For instance, if a web page uses a white background, the Favorites bookmark labels are the same color as the bookmark background, so reading the labels is simply impossible. At other times, they're just very difficult to read. Similarly, it is almost always impossible to tell which tab is the active one - my only workaround is to try 100% brightness....or to just guess. When Apple previously experimented with letting content bleed through to the top, there was a setting for stopping it - but I don't see such a setting anymore. Do you you know of any way to stop this effect?

He is using iPad 10th to access the web component but when he tries to scroll it and it's very slow on iPad 10th. His iPad OS version is 17.7 and this issue also can be reproduced on our iPad 10th with iPad OS 18.0.1. But if we use iPad 9th with iPad OS 17.7 and 18.0.1, things are fine and there isn't any performance issue. We developer took some time investigating and found it's because of iPad 10th's safari takes longer time to paint each frame. On iPad 9th, it needs nearly 10ms to paint each frame. But on iPad 10, it needs nearly 70ms to paint each frame. Also we can provide simple code for you to check the different. We tried to simulate the repaint when user is scrolling. You can see on iPad 9th, it will be 2~3ms but on iPad 10th, it will be more than 10ms for each frame. test-ipad10.html It has been happening on iPad 10th only with iPad OS 17.6/17.7/18.0. This will be a big problem for us because it means on the iPad 10th (the latest iPad, non Pro or Air), it can't be used. Question Is there anyone knowing similar issue with this one? When CHIPS was introduced in 18.4 it worked well, however on 18.5 it does not appear to work. There do not appear to be release notes about this in 18.5, so can someone provide definitive if this is a defect that will be fixed, or have they already been deprecated?

We’re currently working on an OTT-based application where we integrate Google Ad Manager to serve video ads. As part of the ad experience, users often see a “Learn More” CTA (Call to Action) on these ads. As per our current requirement, when a user taps “Learn More” on an ad: • The link should open in Safari (i.e., an external browser) on iOS devices • The Safari browser should ideally open in portrait orientation, as the ad content and layout are optimised for portrait mode However, based on our understanding and technical constraints on iOS, it appears that: • Orientation control is restricted to the app’s own context. • Once Safari is launched via UIApplication.shared.open, we no longer have control over how it behaves in terms of orientation. • iOS system behaviour determines Safari’s orientation based on the device’s physical orientation and Safari’s own internal configuration. Could you please confirm if there’s any supported way (via SDK, deep link config, or otherwise) to enforce portrait orientation in Safari when opening such external URLs from within an iOS app? If this is not technically feasible, we would appreciate any best practices or alternatives you can suggest for ensuring a consistent user experience.

hi Testing on OS26 Public Beta 6. In Safari, if you enter x homepage and scroll, the tab bar sticks to the bottom and moves. Make the keyboard appear in the search window When scrolling down on the Safari homepage again, the issue of not being able to stick to the bottom appears. Is it because the liquid glass UI was applied this time? and safari bug? Please let me know if I'm missing anything

Hi everyone, I'm exploring the new app icon appearance options (Clear, Dark, Tinted) for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) on iOS26, iPadOS26, and macOS26. Currently, PWA icons don't seem to render well with these new appearances, particularly in Clear and Tinted modes, resulting in very very poor visual quality. You can hardly see anything. Has support for these icon appearances been fully implemented for PWAs? If so, could someone point me to the relevant Apple Developer documentation or provide guidance on how to configure PWA icons to support Clear, Dark, and Tinted appearances? I've searched the Apple Developer Forums, Stack Overflow, and Reddit but haven't found clear information on this topic.A possible solution is a png file with transparent areas, but if the pattern is dark, nothing will be visible in dark mode. There does not appear to be any way to use or create iCloud passkeys with a Safari Web Extension, either using the navigator.credentials API in an extension origin webpage such as the popover, or using the AuthenticationServices framework in the SafariWebExtensionHandler. I've setup an associated domain for my plugin, and I know it works for the host application. But I get errors trying to do so in the web extension target. createCredentialRegistrationRequests results in the following error: Domain=com.apple.AuthenticationServices.AuthorizationError Code=1004 "Application with identifier <ID> is not associated with domain <RPID> The other problem, assuming the entitlement works correctly for the web extension, is that there is no NSWindow to use as the presentation target from the SafariWebExtensionHandler. Trying to use the navigator.credentials.create JS API (which is the preferred method, frankly, in a web extension) results in the following error: NotAllowedError: The request is not allowed by the user agent or the platform in the current context, possibly because the user denied permission. Chrome has a great solution for this that I believe should be adopted by Safari. If an extension has host permissions for a relying party it wants to claim, or if it has an associated domain entitlement for it, webauthn operations should be allowed.

During our investigation, we encountered an issue that matches the following WebKit bug: 283620 – Caret Positioning Issues in Vertical Writing Mode We understand that this issue is being addressed in the following pull request: https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/pull/39939 However, it appears that a complete fix has not yet been implemented. Given this situation, we would like to confirm the following: Is there any known workaround for this issue in iOS 17.5 or iOS 18.5 (the latest versions as of now)? If a workaround exists, could you please provide details? If not, could you share the expected timeline for a full resolution of this issue? Although this appears to be an open-source WebKit issue, we are reaching out to Apple because WebKit is tightly integrated with iOS and Safari, and ultimately delivered as part of the iPhone experience. According to our crash analytics, our application crashes while a context menu is opened on a web view. This crash takes place on iOS 26+ only. The messages states that a web view is no longer inside active window hierarchy, however we doesn't modify web view instance's parent anyhow while the context menu is opened. Can you please help with a fix or at least workaround for this issue? What's your opinion for bug localization (application or framework)? Hello, I'm not able to get the webauthn attestation statement using the option (attestation.direct) on Safari. The answer I get is a fmt of none and a aaguid of zeros. The same code works on Chrome and I was able to get a none zero aaguid and a packed fmt attestation. Can you explain why this does not work on Safari ? Thank you.

I'm working on a Safari web extension that uses the nativeMessaging facility to communication with native code. When I want to notify the javascript extension from the embedding application, I use SFSafariApplication::dispatchMessage. As per the documentation, this call ... ensures that Safari is launched and that your extension is running before delivering the message. Everything works fine when the background script is running. However, after the background script gets unloaded at some point in time (non persistent background page, default behavior for a manifest V3 extension), the background script is not reloaded by the message from the native app (background script still appears unloaded in the developer menu of Safari, double-checked using a counter stored in browser.storage.local incremented on message reception). In this case, the completion handler of the application gets no error (error == nil) as if the message was correctly delivered. I was able to reproduce this behavior with the sample app delivered for WWDC20 (after upgrading the manifest from v2 to v3 to make it non-persistent). Is it supposed to work ? What I'm doing wrong ?

I'd like to know the install state of my iOS safari extension in the associated swift app. Is there any way to get this? As we have seen it is available for macOS here, is there anyway to know iOS Safari extension is enabled or not? Thanks
