WKWebView Fails with NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1005 on iOS 18.4 Simulator
Hello, I'm experiencing an issue where WKWebView consistently fails to load a specific URL on the iOS 18.4 simulator (Xcode 16.3). The error is as follows: Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1005 "The network connection was lost." UserInfo={ _kCFStreamErrorCodeKey=-4, _kCFStreamErrorDomainKey=4, NSUnderlyingError=Error Domain=kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork Code=-1005, NSErrorFailingURLKey=[REDACTED] } Key Observations: This URL fails consistently only on the iOS 18.4 simulator. The same URL loads without issue in iOS 18.3 and 18.2 simulators. The backend is serving a valid HTTPS certificate chain, and the server appears to be presenting it properly. The same application appears to work on a real iPhone running 18.4. Certificate Chain for the Failing URL Leaf: WR3 (Valid: Mar 17, 2025 – Jun 15, 2025) Intermediate 1: GTS Root R1 (Valid: Dec 13, 2023 – Feb 20, 2029) Intermediate 2: GlobalSign Root CA (Valid: Jun 19, 2020 – Jan 28, 2028) Other URLs Work Fine in iOS 18.4 Simulator WKWebView successfully loads the following URLs with similar or more complex certificate chains: https://google.com → WR2, GTS Root R1, GlobalSign Root CA https://amazon.com → DigiCert Global CA G2, DigiCert Global Root G2, VeriSign G5 https://stackoverflow.com → E5, ISRG Root X1 https://shopify.com → GlobalSign Root CA, GTS Root R4, WE1 This suggests the issue may not be with general network or certificate trust but instead something specific about how iOS 18.4 handles this domain or certificate configuration in the simulator. Any insights on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

New IOS Safari CSS Issue with DVH & VH
After updating to the new iOS, in Safari, my overlays and backdrops using 100dvh no longer cover the full screen there's now a gap at the bottom. Switching to 100vh fixes it, but that causes scrolling issues on older Safari versions since 100vh includes extra height. Has anyone else experienced this? What's the recommended fix that works across iOS versions?

iOS 18 Safari and WKWebview, "NotSupportedError" issue when playing videos
WKWebview of iOS 18 includes Safari browser. When playing videos, some videos show "NotSupportedError: The operation is not supported.", but it is normal on iOS15 devices. The video link is as follows. Even if it is downloaded and referenced locally in HTML, it cannot be played, so it is ruled out that it is a network problem. https://ydtj-adas.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/e6yun.com/exam/exam/a35447b496b94e5e9a6aab27d62c867e.mp4 cannot be played https://ydtj-adas.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/e6yun.com/exam/exam/82d970957a7d4e8d88c13cd101143005.mp4 can be played

Safari WebExtensions (MV3): Content Script context persists across navigation, causing message routing to wrong (zombie?) pages
Summary: Content scripts injected via manifest continue to receive and respond to chrome.tabs.sendMessage() calls even after the user has navigated away from the original page, causing messages intended for the current tab to be handled by zombie contexts from previous pages. Environment: Safari/iOS Version: 18.5 Extension Manifest: Version 3 Expected Behavior: When a user navigates from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context should be destroyed. chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) should only reach Page B's content script Only Page B should be able to respond to action button clicks (or other background to content messages). Actual Behavior: When navigating from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context persists as a "zombie". chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) reaches zombie context instead of the Page B's one. Hence, it looks like the extension is broken because the content script does not respond to the background messages. Details: Tab ids are properly recognized by both background and content script The problem does not always occur; it occurs on random occasions. It's quite easy to have it reproduced. It can be reproduced easier if user clicks ext icon during site loading (before it fully loaded), triggering ActionClick (ext icon click) event and then sending a msg upon it to the content script Regardless of whether the content script is injected into the tab using manifest.json, registerContentScripts, or executeScript, the problem is still there Once the problem occurs, e.g. user is on macys.com but zombie injected content script believes it's google.com (a previous page), even refreshing the tab doesnt change anything - zombie context is still there (thinking it's still google.com) . Changing a domain to something completely different one could help though. Then going back to macys.com could still lead to the described issue. A zombie content script does not have access to the page's console function and others. Example communication Sending following message from the background to the content script using chrome.tabs.sendMessage() { "tab": { "id": 155, "active": true, "url": "https://www.macys.com/", "title": "Macys.com" } } Results in the content-script zombie context response (the url is taken from the window.location.href) "message": { "type": "ActionClicked", "data": {} }, "response": { "data": { "windowUrl": "https://www.google.com/", "contentReached": true, "timestamp": "1,753,138,945,272", } } }

WebRTC answerer client ICE gathering event not triggered
I have a working answerer-only WebRTC client to view video from a remote device. This client, works in all common web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.) except in Safari. After trying to debug the problem, I noticed that after calling await peerConnection.setLocalDescription(answer); RTCPeerConnection.iceGatheringState never changes to the "gathering" state and stays the default initial "new" state. This is a problem because the ICE candidates can never be gathered and thus the client in Safari does not work at all. What is surprising and weird is that by explicitly calling setLocalDescription(), ICE gathering should start as mentioned in the documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/RTCPeerConnection/icecandidate_event. However, in Safari, this never happens. I experienced this issue in both Safari 18.x and 21.x versions.

WalletPush - Issue with JWT authentication
Hello, I find it difficult to find information about this function, but Apple would allow you to download a Wallet ticket via a JWT signed token, without going through a pkpass, by calling the url https://wallet.apple.com/push/pass? Jwt= + jwt I have made several attempts with a different payload, either I am redirected to the Apple Pay presentation page, or I have a 403 error. I think I'm on my way, but I must miss a step in my signature. Could someone help me and give me the structure or how to manage the key? At the moment I use an Identifiers type PassType ID linked to a Certificate. Has anyone heard of this novelty? According to ChatGPT it should date from iOS 16-18 and potentially not be open to all devs. Thank you! Beautiful day

macOS 15.0.1: Any supported way to auto‑enable a Safari App Extension on unmanaged Macs (no MDM)?
Hi all, Question: Can Apple confirm that, on macOS 15 without MDM/supervision, there is no supported API, entitlement, auth right, or config file that can enable a Safari App Extension without some form of user interaction? Environment • OS / Safari: macOS 15.0.1 (Sequoia), Safari 18.x • Distribution: Signed, notarized, stapled PKG installs a host app that contains a Safari App Extension • Management: No MDM allowed (and thus no supervision) • Goal: Have the extension come up enabled immediately after install, without requiring the user to click the checkbox in Safari Settings ▸ Extensions What we already know / tried Normal install flow – After PKG install, the extension shows up disabled. User must check the box to enable. SFSafariApplication.showPreferencesForExtension(...) – We can deep‑link the user to our row, but they still need to click “Enable.” Accessibility/UI scripting – We can script the click if the user grants our helper Accessibility permission. That still involves user interaction. .mobileconfig with Safari Extensions Management (AlwaysOn) – From what I can tell, this requires a supervised device enrolled in MDM. Installing that profile manually on an unsupervised Mac does not enforce the “AlwaysOn” state. Auth rights / Developer mode – Looked at auth.db rights like com.apple.Safari.allow-unsigned-app-extensions, and the Develop menu “Allow Unsigned Extensions.” Neither appears to auto‑enable a signed extension, and we don’t want to use private/unsupported APIs anyway. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

iOS 26 beta 4 + WKWebView + jquery cause crash
Hello. I have a project that loads a page using jquery 3.6.3 in WKWebView. When I try this on iOS developer beta 4, WKWebView malfunctions and the page does not load properly. Safari Web Extension checkbox missing or not persistent in Safari 26.0.1 on macOS 15.7
I’m observing an intermittent issue with a Safari Web Extension on macOS 15.7 (Safari 26.0.1). After installing the Safari extension from the App Store, it appears under Settings → Extensions, but the enable checkbox is often missing. Sometimes, after restarting Safari multiple times, the checkbox becomes visible. However, even when I manage to enable the extension, reopening Safari often hides the checkbox again. However, I don't see this issue in safari 26 with macOS 26 I’d like to know if this behavior is a known issue with Safari 26 or macOS 15.7? Any workaround available?

declarativeNetRequest redirect action causing page reload/error in Safari 26.0
After updating to Safari 26.0 (on macOS Sequoia or Tahoe), the Declarative Net Request (DNR) API rule with "type": "redirect" no longer works as expected. When the rule is applied, the browser initially shows a banner at the top of the page: "This webpage was reloaded because a problem occurred." After the reload, the page fails to load and displays an error page with the message: "A problem repeatedly occurred with https://extensionworkshop.com/?test=true " This behavior is new in Safari 26.0. The same rule was working correctly in earlier Safari versions (17.x / 18.x).

Crash in WKScriptMessageHandler — CFRelease / CoreFoundation on iOS with WKWebView
We are building a hybrid iOS app using Angular (web) rendered inside a WKWebView, hosted by a native Swift app. Communication between the Angular UI and native Swift code is done using WKScriptMessageHandler. The app mostly works without issues, but in rare edge cases, we’re seeing crashes on the main thread, and the crash is reported in Firebase Crashlytics. The root cause appears related to CFRelease and WKScriptMessageHandler. Here’s the relevant crash stack: Crashed: com.apple.main-thread 0 CoreFoundation 0xbfac CFRelease + 44 1 CoreFoundation 0xa734 __CFURLDeallocate + 128 2 CoreFoundation 0x730c _CFRelease + 292 3 libobjc.A.dylib 0x4e28 AutoreleasePoolPage::releaseUntil(objc_object**) + 204 4 libobjc.A.dylib 0x4cbc objc_autoreleasePoolPop + 260 5 WebKit 0x99f194 WebKit::WebUserContentControllerProxy::didPostMessage(WTF::ObjectIdentifierGeneric<WebKit::WebPageProxyIdentifierType, WTF::ObjectIdentifierMainThreadAccessTraits<unsigned long long>, unsigned long long>, WebKit::FrameInfoData&&, WTF::ObjectIdentifierGeneric<WebKit::ScriptMessageHandlerIdentifierType, WTF::ObjectIdentifierMainThreadAccessTraits<unsigned long long>, unsigned long long>, std::__1::span<unsigned char const, 18446744073709551615ul>, WTF::CompletionHandler<void (std::__1::span<unsigned char const, 18446744073709551615ul>, WTF::String const&)>&&) + 680 6 WebKit 0x1b358 WebKit::WebUserContentControllerProxy::didReceiveMessage(IPC::Connection&, IPC::Decoder&) + 392 7 WebKit 0xe86b0 IPC::MessageReceiverMap::dispatchMessage(IPC::Connection&, IPC::Decoder&) + 272 8 WebKit 0x23c0c WebKit::WebProcessProxy::didReceiveMessage(IPC::Connection&, IPC::Decoder&) + 44 9 WebKit 0xe3f054 IPC::Connection::dispatchMessage(WTF::UniqueRef<IPC::Decoder>) + 252 10 WebKit 0x332d4 IPC::Connection::dispatchIncomingMessages() + 744 11 JavaScriptCore 0x58a7c WTF::RunLoop::performWork() + 204 12 JavaScriptCore 0x599a4 WTF::RunLoop::performWork(void*) + 36 13 CoreFoundation 0x56328 __CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_A_SOURCE0_PERFORM_FUNCTION__ + 28 14 CoreFoundation 0x562bc __CFRunLoopDoSource0 + 176 15 CoreFoundation 0x53dc0 __CFRunLoopDoSources0 + 244 16 CoreFoundation 0x52fbc __CFRunLoopRun + 840 17 CoreFoundation 0x52830 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 588 18 GraphicsServices 0x11c4 GSEventRunModal + 164 19 UIKitCore 0x3d2eb0 -[UIApplication _run] + 816 20 UIKitCore 0x4815b4 UIApplicationMain + 340 21 APP1 0xa2f80 main + 21 (AppDelegate.swift:21) 22 ??? 0x1c234eec8 (シンボルが不足しています) Steps: WebView: WKWebView Message passing: WKScriptMessageHandler → passing data from Angular → Swift WKWebView is long-lived and reused Native is using WKUserContentController.add(_:name:) to register handlers Crashes are intermittent (hard to reproduce), but often follow: Screen sleep/wake Push notification open Angular calling native immediately after resume Questions: Has anyone seen this specific crash pattern involving CFRelease and WKScriptMessageHandler? min-height not interpreted preoperly after upgrading iOS 18.4
I have a UI application built with the Vue framework, using Vuetify for the UI components. There's a div with the class v-application--wrap, which is provided by Vuetify. This class internally includes the following style rule. .v-application--wrap { backface-visibility: hidden; display: flex; flex: 1 1 auto; flex-direction: column; max-width: 100%; min-height: 100vh; position: relative; } The pages were rendering correctly up to version 18.3, but after upgrading to version 18.4, we encountered layout issues related to height. Upon investigation, we discovered that the min-height property was no longer being interpreted or applied correctly. Replacing min-height with height resolved the issue, and the pages began loading as expected. Any insights into why this behavior is occurring would be greatly appreciated.

iOS26 Safari rendering bug even on latest beta 3
I am testing stuff on a website, and it worked well on any mobile browser till iOS18. Now that I am testing iOS26, even with the latest BETA (3) everything works smoothly on any other mobile browser but Safari. Previously I had the bug, which now has been patched, for status-bar, which was flickering too, but popover and page issue seems still there. I have persistent popover and ajax navigation, and both are rendering with bugs and fouc while view/page changes. Example: If I have an element which must stay on its place and its width is 100vw: while page changes it blinks, shrinks, flicker and jumps on rendering, while it simply must stay as is.. Animations and page transitions work smoothly on Chrome mobile (latest iOS 26 beta 3) , while breaking on Safari. I did open a feedback FB18328720, but seems no one caring. Any idea guys? ** Video of the bug (which is huge!) : ** https://youtube.com/shorts/rY3oxUwDd7w?feature=share Cheers

Safari WebExtensions (MV3): Content Script context persists across navigation, causing message routing to wrong (zombie?) pages
Summary: Content scripts injected via manifest continue to receive and respond to chrome.tabs.sendMessage() calls even after the user has navigated away from the original page, causing messages intended for the current tab to be handled by zombie contexts from previous pages. Environment: Safari/iOS Version: 18.5 Extension Manifest: Version 3 Expected Behavior: When a user navigates from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context should be destroyed. chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) should only reach Page B's content script Only Page B should be able to respond to action button clicks (or other background to content messages). Actual Behavior: When navigating from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context persists as a "zombie". chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) reaches zombie context instead of the Page B's one. Hence, it looks like the extension is broken because the content script does not respond to the background messages. Details: Tab ids are properly recognized by both background and content script The problem does not always occur; it occurs on random occasions. It's quite easy to have it reproduced. It can be reproduced easier if user clicks ext icon during site loading (before it fully loaded), triggering ActionClick (ext icon click) event and then sending a msg upon it to the content script Regardless of whether the content script is injected into the tab using manifest.json, registerContentScripts, or executeScript, the problem is still there Once the problem occurs, e.g. user is on macys.com but zombie injected content script believes it's google.com (a previous page), even refreshing the tab doesnt change anything - zombie context is still there (thinking it's still google.com) . Changing a domain to something completely different one could help though. Then going back to macys.com could still lead to the described issue. A zombie content script does not have access to the page's console function and others. Example communication Sending following message from the background to the content script using chrome.tabs.sendMessage() { "tab": { "id": 155, "active": true, "url": "https://www.macys.com/", "title": "Macys.com" } } Results in the content-script zombie context response (the url is taken from the window.location.href) "message": { "type": "ActionClicked", "data": {} }, "response": { "data": { "windowUrl": "https://www.google.com/", "contentReached": true, "timestamp": "1,753,138,945,272", } } }

Animated AVIF in some Safari versions return a black background instead of transparency
Seeing an issue in some versions of Safari (16.6, 18.3, 18.5) where an APNG converted to AVIF does not support transparency. Instead of a transparent background, the background is filled with black.

If I remove jquery, the page loads. Even if I update jquery to the latest version, the problem remains the same. This problem did not occur until developer beta 3.

We are building a hybrid iOS app using Angular (web) rendered inside a WKWebView, hosted by a native Swift app. Communication between the Angular UI and native Swift code is done using WKScriptMessageHandler. The app mostly works without issues, but in rare edge cases, we’re seeing crashes on the main thread, and the crash is reported in Firebase Crashlytics. The root cause appears related to CFRelease and WKScriptMessageHandler. Here’s the relevant crash stack: Crashed: com.apple.main-thread 0 CoreFoundation 0xbfac CFRelease + 44 1 CoreFoundation 0xa734 __CFURLDeallocate + 128 2 CoreFoundation 0x730c _CFRelease + 292 3 libobjc.A.dylib 0x4e28 AutoreleasePoolPage::releaseUntil(objc_object**) + 204 4 libobjc.A.dylib 0x4cbc objc_autoreleasePoolPop + 260 5 WebKit 0x99f194 WebKit::WebUserContentControllerProxy::didPostMessage(WTF::ObjectIdentifierGeneric<WebKit::WebPageProxyIdentifierType, WTF::ObjectIdentifierMainThreadAccessTraits<unsigned long long>, unsigned long long>, WebKit::FrameInfoData&&, WTF::ObjectIdentifierGeneric<WebKit::ScriptMessageHandlerIdentifierType, WTF::ObjectIdentifierMainThreadAccessTraits<unsigned long long>, unsigned long long>, std::__1::span<unsigned char const, 18446744073709551615ul>, WTF::CompletionHandler<void (std::__1::span<unsigned char const, 18446744073709551615ul>, WTF::String const&)>&&) + 680 6 WebKit 0x1b358 WebKit::WebUserContentControllerProxy::didReceiveMessage(IPC::Connection&, IPC::Decoder&) + 392 7 WebKit 0xe86b0 IPC::MessageReceiverMap::dispatchMessage(IPC::Connection&, IPC::Decoder&) + 272 8 WebKit 0x23c0c WebKit::WebProcessProxy::didReceiveMessage(IPC::Connection&, IPC::Decoder&) + 44 9 WebKit 0xe3f054 IPC::Connection::dispatchMessage(WTF::UniqueRef<IPC::Decoder>) + 252 10 WebKit 0x332d4 IPC::Connection::dispatchIncomingMessages() + 744 11 JavaScriptCore 0x58a7c WTF::RunLoop::performWork() + 204 12 JavaScriptCore 0x599a4 WTF::RunLoop::performWork(void*) + 36 13 CoreFoundation 0x56328 __CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_A_SOURCE0_PERFORM_FUNCTION__ + 28 14 CoreFoundation 0x562bc __CFRunLoopDoSource0 + 176 15 CoreFoundation 0x53dc0 __CFRunLoopDoSources0 + 244 16 CoreFoundation 0x52fbc __CFRunLoopRun + 840 17 CoreFoundation 0x52830 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 588 18 GraphicsServices 0x11c4 GSEventRunModal + 164 19 UIKitCore 0x3d2eb0 -[UIApplication _run] + 816 20 UIKitCore 0x4815b4 UIApplicationMain + 340 21 APP1 0xa2f80 main + 21 (AppDelegate.swift:21) 22 ??? 0x1c234eec8 (シンボルが不足しています) Steps: WebView: WKWebView Message passing: WKScriptMessageHandler → passing data from Angular → Swift WKWebView is long-lived and reused Native is using WKUserContentController.add(_:name:) to register handlers Crashes are intermittent (hard to reproduce), but often follow: Screen sleep/wake Push notification open Angular calling native immediately after resume Questions: Has anyone seen this specific crash pattern involving CFRelease and WKScriptMessageHandler? Are there known WebKit or CoreFoundation bugs related to WKScriptMessageHandler and retained URLs or message content? Thank you for your help!

Reveal "" logs from JavaScriptCore stack trace
I'm developing an application that makes use of a WebView. When resuming the app I occasionally run into an issue where the application just shows as a blank page. In the Console.app I see a stack trace, however the details are hidden (see below). min-height not interpreted preoperly after upgrading iOS 18.4

On Safari the search bar does not update after downloading a file
The icon (new file downloaded) inside the search bar on Safari does not display after downloading a file. To update the search bar and display the icon you have to open the search bar and then close it again to see that a new file was downloaded.
