Is it possible to programmatically set macOS notification preferences for an app in Swift?
Hi, I’m working on a Safari extension for macOS, and I’d like the app to use specific system notification settings right after installation. I’m wondering if there’s a way in Swift to programmatically configure the default notification preferences (as seen in System Settings > Notifications > [my app]). Here are the desired settings: Only Desktop – without “Notification Center” or “Lock Screen” Alert Style: Temporary Badge App Icon: Enabled Play Sound for Notifications: Disabled Show Previews: When Unlocked Notification Grouping: Off (I don’t want them to accumulate in Notification Center) Here is the code I’m currently using to display a basic notification: private func handleNotificationRequest(_ message: [String: Any]) { guard let title = message["title"] as? String, let body = message["body"] as? String else { return } UNUserNotificationCenter.current().requestAuthorization(options: [.alert, .badge, .sound]) { granted, error in if granted { self.showNotification(title: title, body: body) } } } private func showNotification(title: String, body: String) { let content = UNMutableNotificationContent() content.title = title content.body = body content.sound = nil // No sound for subtle notification // Create notification that doesn't persist in notification center let trigger = UNTimeIntervalNotificationTrigger(timeInterval: 0.1, repeats: false) let request = UNNotificationRequest(identifier: "fast-url-copy-notification", content: content, trigger: trigger) UNUserNotificationCenter.current().add(request) { error in if let error = error { os_log(.error, "Failed to show notification: %@", error.localizedDescription) } } } OS: macOS 26.0 Thanks in advance, Mateusz

Apple Pay Web: Multiple active PPCs for one Merchant ID?
Hi,
 We’re implementing Apple Pay on the Web for a multi-tenant platform via a PSP. The PSP operates multiple HSM/clusters and gave us multiple CSRs, asking us to register all.
Our understanding: a Merchant ID can hold several PPCs over time, but only one is active at once. Questions Is there any supported way to keep more than one PPC active simultaneously for the same Merchant ID? If not, what does Apple recommend for web-only, multi-tenant setups: a single MID with PSP-side decryption & sub-merchant separation, or separate MIDs per brand/region? Any official guidance on PPC rotation and handling many domains for Apple Pay on the Web? links to official docs or prior Apple responses would be appreciated.

False positive 'Deceptive Website' warning for personal domain
Hi everyone, i'm running into a problem with my personal domain being flagged as 'deceptive website' in safari, and i can't figure out how to fix it Domain: neon0404.space This is just my personal domain - i use it for adguard home, vaultwarden, some test stuff, sometimes small web tools for friends or family Nothing illegal or malicious has ever been hosted there On july 6, i launched a very simple web utility for a friend when he opened it on ios safari, he got the red 'deceptive website warning' I checked this on other different devices - all got the same warning The next day (july 7) i submitted a review request via websitereview.apple.com, but got no reply I did some digging and found that safari safe browsing daemon pulls data from google safe browsing, tencent safe browsing, and some apple's internal lists So, going one-by-one https://transparencyreport.google.com/safe-browsing/search showed up that domain is flagged for something shady Signed up in google search console and saw my domain was flagged for 'malware links' (with no related urls listed), so looked like a false positive I audited everything related to this domain on august 5 - nothing suspicious Next day i requested a review in Google Search Console, just next day Google confirmed that everything is ok and removed the flag So, i thought, maybe this was the key and requested another review via websitereview.apple.com (august 7) No reply, domain still flagged While i was waiting, i checked domain in Tencent (https://urlsec.qq.com/check.html) - no issues Other services like VirusTotal, Norton and Sucuri showed up same result - no issues I attempted to contact regular support (even though it's not their area of responsibility), but just in case They, as expected, couldn't do anything At this point it feels like a dead end, so i'm here Has anyone been through this before? Is there any other way to escalate the review process with apple? Really appreciate any advice, as this domain is personal and linked to my username, which i want to use later

Calling SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker from related App extension intermittently fails
I have an app which has at least two extensions: A Content Blocker extension with a request handler that returns an appropriate NSExtensionItem as part of beginRequest. A different file URL is returned depending upon if the content blocking is on or off by a user setting A Safari Web Extension that includes a toolbar button and popover that enables users to enable or disable the ad blocking of the content blocker extension All three targets (App, Content Blocker appex and Web Extension appex) use an App Group default to read and set the on or off status of the content blocking. When the user changes the content blocking status, the app group default is updated and SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) is called. The Content Blocker extension reads the default and then returns the appropriate file URL. The issue is, I have noticed that whenever SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) is called from the app, Safari always applies the correct rules from the returned file URL. However sometimes when SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) is called from the Safari Web Extension using native messaging, Safari does NOT apply the correct rules from the returned file URL. Using logging I have confirmed that the Content Blocker extension always returns the appropriate file URL irrespective if called as a result of the app or the web extension. Despite this, Safari does not seem to always apply the returned file URL rules when it is called from the Safari Web Extension appex. In these cases, quitting Safari and relaunching it seems to make it apply the rules correctly (obviously this is applying it due to its launch state, not due to the Web extension appex asking it to do so at that point). All targets have access to the App Group location where the active content blocking file URL belongs and the inactive content blocking file URL is within the Safari content blocker target as a resource. I don't think this is a memory status issue as I cannot see the Content Blocker extension being killed when it returns complex rules --- the fact it always works when called via the app also seems to rule this possibility out. This brings up a number of questions: Is calling SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) from a different appex, of the same app target and app group supported? (it seems to work sometimes and did work in previous versions of the app). Is there an issue that the Content Blocker extension sometimes returns a file URL that perhaps the calling Web Extension appex may not have access to (even though Safari should via the Content Blocker extension)? Any other ideas of why this may not be working correctly? Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to happen on both iOS and macOS Safari using the same codebase.

How to create a thumbnail for tabs like Safari or Chrome?
In the safari or chrome app, when I want to change tabs, I can go into a grid view of the tabs. In this grid, each tab shows the content of the page. When I click on one of the tabs, the content of the page expands to fill the entire screen (and shrinks when I go back to grid). I'm creating my own browser and I'm trying to replicate this same functionality. I'm using WebKit on XCode 16.4, iOS 18. However, I'm unable to figure out how Chrome and Safari did this. First, I thought that I could take a snapshot of the page and then use that image as the thumbnail. However, very often the image is of the wrong size - likely due to the webview shrinking for the animation. Making the animation wait until the image is made available did help in making it more consistent. The above errors happen whenever I spam the new tab and then click the tab grid button. It only is misaligned on the very last new tab. Please help on this. // OpenedTab.swift Button(action: { tab.getThumbnail { tabManager.selectedTab = nil } }) { ZStack { Image(systemName: "square") .resizable() .frame(width: 25, height: 25) Text(tabManager.tabs.count.description) .font(.subheadline) } } // TabState.swift func getThumbnail(completionHandler: (() -> Void)? = nil) { webView.takeSnapshot(with: nil) { img, err in if let err = err { print("Snapshot err: \(err)") } else { self.thumbnail = img completionHandler?() } } } Also, something I'm noticing is that for some reason, the image is slightly bigger than the header of the tab card. It also happens in the progress view if the thumbnail isn't available. The images above show it too. I have no clue why this is happening and I would love advice on this too. struct TabCardView: View { @StateObject var manager = TabManager.shared @ObservedObject var tab: TabState var namespace: Namespace.ID @State var width: CGFloat = 0 var body: some View { GeometryReader { geo in VStack(spacing: 0) { HStack(spacing: 1) { Text(tab.title ?? tab.url.host() ?? "") .font(.caption2) .padding(.horizontal, 4) .padding(.vertical, 10) Button(action: { manager.close(tab: tab) }) { Image(systemName: "multiply") } } .frame(height: 40) .frame(width: geo.size.width) // .padding(.horizontal, 7) .background(.tertiary) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "title", in: namespace) ZStack { if let thumbnail = tab.thumbnail { Image(uiImage: thumbnail) .resizable() .aspectRatio(contentMode: .fill) .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160, alignment: .top) .clipped() } else { Color.black.brightness(0.8) ProgressView() } } .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "container", in: namespace) } .frame(width: geo.size.width) } .frame(height: 200) .clipShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 16)) .shadow(radius: 2) .padding(.all, 7) .overlay( RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 20) .stroke(.blue, lineWidth: manager.previousTab?.id == tab.id ? 5 : 0) ) .shadow(radius: 1) } }

iOS 18.4 is crashing the apps using service workers
After updating to iOS 18.4, our web application (with service workers) crashes on devices that accessed it prior to the update. This issue also affects hybrid mobile apps using the same web application; reinstalling the app resolves it by refetching and reinstalling service workers. Debugging is challenging because clearing the cache or reinstalling the app fixes the problem, and no useful error logs are available. Has anyone encountered similar crashes related to service workers after an iOS update and have any insights into the cause?

SFSafariApplication doesn't transmit messages to docked website.
Hi! I'm working on a web extension for Safari and I need to send messages from the containing application to JavaScript. For this I use the method class func dispatchMessage( withName messageName: String, toExtensionWithIdentifier identifier: String, userInfo: [String : Any]? = nil ) async throws of the SFSafariApplication class. If the site is opened in Safari in normal mode, everything works as expected. However, if the site is "docked", the messages are not transmitted to this "Web App". Is it possible to somehow link the container application to the docked website so that messages from the application are received by this "Web App"? That you.

MediaRecorder as PWA on iOS
Hey, very strange problem I have on iOS when shared web as an app (pwa) to home screen. Whenever I use it via safari browser on iPhone, it works 100% fine every time. However, when I put it as an app on home screen, first time I open it it works fine, when i close it and reopen again, it just doesnt start recording. I have to restart my phone for it to work. So it works one time, I guess somehow it doesnt end stream or something, but in code I've tried all the possible ways to close and clean the track. tried GPT, Claude, Gemini solutions. nothing worked, it just works 1 time as PWA. my last hope is someone else encountered this issue and may try to help me ? https://pastebin.com/85i2L2vH

Conflicting Results Between canMakePayments and applePayCapabilities in Apple Pay JS
Hi everyone, We’ve recently run into an issue with Apple Pay on the web and would appreciate some clarification. Background: Previously, we integrated Apple Pay without using the Apple Pay JS SDK. We relied on ApplePaySession.canMakePayments() to check availability, and it worked fine. After Apple announced support for browsers beyond Safari, we switched to the Apple Pay JS SDK. According to Apple’s documentation, we should now use applePayCapabilities() for capability checks in third-party browsers. Our current behavior: We implemented applePayCapabilities(). Initially, it was returning either paymentCredentialStatusUnknown or paymentCredentialsUnavailable. Based on those values, we displayed the Apple Pay button. The problem: About a week ago, on the same device/browser, applePayCapabilities() started returning applePayUnsupported. Setup: MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020), Google Chrome Version 136.0.7103.93. The Apple documentation says: “Don’t show an Apple Pay button or offer Apple Pay” when the result is applePayUnsupported. However, at the same time, canMakePayments() is returning true. This creates a direct conflict between the two recommendations: canMakePayments() → true ⇒ show the button. applePayCapabilities() → applePayUnsupported ⇒ don’t show the button. Question: What’s the correct approach here? Should we prioritize applePayCapabilities() and hide the button, or is it acceptable to continue relying only on canMakePayments() as the source of truth for showing Apple Pay? Any insights from others who’ve run into this contradiction would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Safari WebExtensions (MV3): Content Script context persists across navigation, causing message routing to wrong (zombie?) pages
Summary: Content scripts injected via manifest continue to receive and respond to chrome.tabs.sendMessage() calls even after the user has navigated away from the original page, causing messages intended for the current tab to be handled by zombie contexts from previous pages. Environment: Safari/iOS Version: 18.5 Extension Manifest: Version 3 Expected Behavior: When a user navigates from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context should be destroyed. chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) should only reach Page B's content script Only Page B should be able to respond to action button clicks (or other background to content messages). Actual Behavior: When navigating from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context persists as a "zombie". chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) reaches zombie context instead of the Page B's one. Hence, it looks like the extension is broken because the content script does not respond to the background messages. Details: Tab ids are properly recognized by both background and content script The problem does not always occur; it occurs on random occasions. It's quite easy to have it reproduced. It can be reproduced easier if user clicks ext icon during site loading (before it fully loaded), triggering ActionClick (ext icon click) event and then sending a msg upon it to the content script Regardless of whether the content script is injected into the tab using manifest.json, registerContentScripts, or executeScript, the problem is still there Once the problem occurs, e.g. user is on macys.com but zombie injected content script believes it's google.com (a previous page), even refreshing the tab doesnt change anything - zombie context is still there (thinking it's still google.com) . Changing a domain to something completely different one could help though. Then going back to macys.com could still lead to the described issue. A zombie content script does not have access to the page's console function and others. Example communication Sending following message from the background to the content script using chrome.tabs.sendMessage() { "tab": { "id": 155, "active": true, "url": "https://www.macys.com/", "title": "Macys.com" } } Results in the content-script zombie context response (the url is taken from the window.location.href) "message": { "type": "ActionClicked", "data": {} }, "response": { "data": { "windowUrl": "https://www.google.com/", "contentReached": true, "timestamp": "1,753,138,945,272", } } }

WebRTC answerer client ICE gathering event not triggered
I have a working answerer-only WebRTC client to view video from a remote device. This client, works in all common web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.) except in Safari. After trying to debug the problem, I noticed that after calling await peerConnection.setLocalDescription(answer); RTCPeerConnection.iceGatheringState never changes to the "gathering" state and stays the default initial "new" state. This is a problem because the ICE candidates can never be gathered and thus the client in Safari does not work at all. What is surprising and weird is that by explicitly calling setLocalDescription(), ICE gathering should start as mentioned in the documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/RTCPeerConnection/icecandidate_event. However, in Safari, this never happens. I experienced this issue in both Safari 18.x and 21.x versions.

Safari: Sticky element with bottom: 0 does not follow viewport when toolbar hides on scroll
Device: iPhone 15pro, ios26.0 (23A 341) IOS version: 26.0 (23A 341) When using position: sticky; bottom: 0, the div is expected to stick to the bottom of the viewport when the browser toolbar hides while scrolling. However, it stops at the height where the toolbar was, instead of moving down with the disappearing toolbar. In the image below, the red-bordered navigation shows the situation where it does not stick to the bottom. i

macOS 15.0.1: Any supported way to auto‑enable a Safari App Extension on unmanaged Macs (no MDM)?
Hi all, Question: Can Apple confirm that, on macOS 15 without MDM/supervision, there is no supported API, entitlement, auth right, or config file that can enable a Safari App Extension without some form of user interaction? Environment • OS / Safari: macOS 15.0.1 (Sequoia), Safari 18.x • Distribution: Signed, notarized, stapled PKG installs a host app that contains a Safari App Extension • Management: No MDM allowed (and thus no supervision) • Goal: Have the extension come up enabled immediately after install, without requiring the user to click the checkbox in Safari Settings ▸ Extensions What we already know / tried Normal install flow – After PKG install, the extension shows up disabled. User must check the box to enable. SFSafariApplication.showPreferencesForExtension(...) – We can deep‑link the user to our row, but they still need to click “Enable.” Accessibility/UI scripting – We can script the click if the user grants our helper Accessibility permission. That still involves user interaction. .mobileconfig with Safari Extensions Management (AlwaysOn) – From what I can tell, this requires a supervised device enrolled in MDM. Installing that profile manually on an unsupervised Mac does not enforce the “AlwaysOn” state. Auth rights / Developer mode – Looked at auth.db rights like com.apple.Safari.allow-unsigned-app-extensions, and the Develop menu “Allow Unsigned Extensions.” Neither appears to auto‑enable a signed extension, and we don’t want to use private/unsupported APIs anyway. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

I have no clue why this is happening and I would love advice on this too. struct TabCardView: View { @StateObject var manager = TabManager.shared @ObservedObject var tab: TabState var namespace: Namespace.ID @State var width: CGFloat = 0 var body: some View { GeometryReader { geo in VStack(spacing: 0) { HStack(spacing: 1) { Text(tab.title ?? tab.url.host() ?? "") .font(.caption2) .padding(.horizontal, 4) .padding(.vertical, 10) Button(action: { manager.close(tab: tab) }) { Image(systemName: "multiply") } } .frame(height: 40) .frame(width: geo.size.width) // .padding(.horizontal, 7) .background(.tertiary) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "title", in: namespace) ZStack { if let thumbnail = tab.thumbnail { Image(uiImage: thumbnail) .resizable() .aspectRatio(contentMode: .fill) .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160, alignment: .top) .clipped() } else { Color.black.brightness(0.8) ProgressView() } } .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "container", in: namespace) } .frame(width: geo.size.width) } .frame(height: 200) .clipShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 16)) .shadow(radius: 2) .padding(.all, 7) .overlay( RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 20) .stroke(.blue, lineWidth: manager.previousTab?.id == tab.id ? 5 : 0) ) .shadow(radius: 1) } }

iOS 18.4 is crashing the apps using service workers

WKWebView in full screen shows black instead of webpage on macOS 26 beta
As you see in the image, when I fullscreen in WKWebView, it shows black instead of the webpage in full screen. It works fine in Sequoia. It has happened to me since beta 1, but I post it now, because we’re in beta 8 and it’s not fixed. What’s going on? Can somebody tell me if they have the same issue?

Safari WebExtensions (MV3): Content Script context persists across navigation, causing message routing to wrong (zombie?) pages
Summary: Content scripts injected via manifest continue to receive and respond to chrome.tabs.sendMessage() calls even after the user has navigated away from the original page, causing messages intended for the current tab to be handled by zombie contexts from previous pages. Environment: Safari/iOS Version: 18.5 Extension Manifest: Version 3 Expected Behavior: When a user navigates from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context should be destroyed. chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) should only reach Page B's content script Only Page B should be able to respond to action button clicks (or other background to content messages). Actual Behavior: When navigating from Page A to Page B: Page A's content script context persists as a "zombie". chrome.tabs.sendMessage(currentTabId, message) reaches zombie context instead of the Page B's one. Hence, it looks like the extension is broken because the content script does not respond to the background messages. Details: Tab ids are properly recognized by both background and content script The problem does not always occur; it occurs on random occasions. It's quite easy to have it reproduced. It can be reproduced easier if user clicks ext icon during site loading (before it fully loaded), triggering ActionClick (ext icon click) event and then sending a msg upon it to the content script Regardless of whether the content script is injected into the tab using manifest.json, registerContentScripts, or executeScript, the problem is still there Once the problem occurs, e.g. user is on macys.com but zombie injected content script believes it's google.com (a previous page), even refreshing the tab doesnt change anything - zombie context is still there (thinking it's still google.com) . Changing a domain to something completely different one could help though. Then going back to macys.com could still lead to the described issue. A zombie content script does not have access to the page's console function and others. Example communication Sending following message from the background to the content script using chrome.tabs.sendMessage() { "tab": { "id": 155, "active": true, "url": "https://www.macys.com/", "title": "Macys.com" } } Results in the content-script zombie context response (the url is taken from the window.location.href) "message": { "type": "ActionClicked", "data": {} }, "response": { "data": { "windowUrl": "https://www.google.com/", "contentReached": true, "timestamp": "1,753,138,945,272", } } }

In the image below, the red-bordered navigation shows the situation where it does not stick to the bottom. i

Animated AVIF in some Safari versions return a black background instead of transparency
Seeing an issue in some versions of Safari (16.6, 18.3, 18.5) where an APNG converted to AVIF does not support transparency. Instead of a transparent background, the background is filled with black.

macOS 15.0.1: Any supported way to auto‑enable a Safari App Extension on unmanaged Macs (no MDM)?
