Metal 4: Proper usage of requestResidency() with unique per-frame textures at 120fps
Hello, I have some confusion regarding ResidencySet. Specifically, about the requestResidency() function: how often should we call it? I have a captureOutput(_:didOutput:from:) method that is triggered at 60 or 120 fps. Inside this method, I am calling the following code every frame: computeResidencySet.removeAllAllocations() сomputeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureA) computeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureB) computeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureC) computeResidencySet.commit() computeResidencySet.requestResidency() // Should we call it every frame? Please keep in mind that TextureA, TextureB, and TextureC are unique for each call (new instances are provided on every frame)."

Monthly recurring leaderboard and placement achievement?
I would like a monthly recurring leaderboard, but the most days one can set for the recurring leaderboard is 30, and some months have 31 days (or 28/29). This is dumb. I guess I have to manually reset a classic leaderboard each month to get this result? Additionally once it closes and is about to reset (I also have daily recurring leaderboards), I'd like to grant the top placers on the leaderboard a corresponding achievement, but I don't see any way of doing this. I believe I can do all these things on PlayFab, but it'll take a bit more work, and eventually cost. Any one have advise?

'tangents' was deprecated in visionOS 2.0: Use cp_drawable_compute_projection instead
I'm using a class with tangents to render on RealityKit for VisionOS but in Vision26 it cause a crash on App and there not documentation how implement cp_drawable_compute_projection I have tried a few options but without success. CIBumpDistortion filter not working on my view
I'm trying to apply a CIBumpDistortion Core Image filter to a view that contains a UILabel (my storyLabel). The goal is to create a visual bump/magnifying glass effect over the text. However, despite my attempts, the filter doesn't seem to render at all. The view and the label appear as normal, with no distortion effect. I've tried adjusting the filter parameters and reviewing the view hierarchy, but without success. I also haven't been able to find clear documentation or examples for applying this filter to a UIView's layer. // // TVView.swift // Mistery // // Created by Joje on 31/07/25. // import CoreImage import CoreImage.CIFilterBuiltins import UIKit import AVFoundation final class TVView: UIView { // propriedades animacao texto private var textAnimationTimer: Timer? Unity GameKit plugin beta GameKit Activity UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion
I’m running into unexpected problems with the Unity GameKit plugin setup with the new Activities. I didn’t see anyone else mentioning these issues, so my guess is that it’s a problem with my setup. The authentication (GKLocalPlayer.Authenticate()) works as expected, but any call to the new GameActivity functionality (e.g. GKGameActivityDefinition.LoadGameActivityDefinitions() or GKGameActivity.WantsToPlay) gives me an exception with a 'UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion' reason despite it running on an iOS 18.6.1 device. I’m using a completely empty Unity 2022.3.62f1 project that only contains the official authentication example, followed by an event handler for activities from another example and the Unity core and gamekit plugins. The setup: macOS 15.6 Xcode 26 beta 6 (also tried with 5) Physical iPhone device running iOS 18.6.1 Unity 2022.3.62f1, which satisfies the requirements Unity plugin, Xcode setup, and build steps: I Followed the official beta branch build steps for Unity plugins with python3 build.py -m iOS iPhoneSimulator macOS -p Core GameKit which ran through after a slight modification for the macOS target that somehow contained an unknown team reference for the GameKitWrapper project, which I changed to not reference a team and use ‘sign to run locally’, as was the case for the other packages. As far as I understood the macOS version is not strictly necessary either way just for running it on a local iOS device(?) I Imported these as tarball packages into the empty Unity 2022.3.62f1 project as per the official instructions, which seems to work as expected Added a single script with the mentioned example code added in a MonoBehavior.Start Building in Unity works as expected as well, creating the Xcode project The Unity-iPhone target has the GameKit framework linked (’do not embed’) and the GameCenter capability was added automatically as expected The GameKit framework seems to not be added to the UnityFramework target, but I don’t think this is necessary? Quickly testing this with the GameKit framework added there as well didn’t make a difference The linked GameKit framework is indeed the expected Xcode 26 beta version I can then build and run this on the physical iPhone iOS 18.6.1 device, where I get an ‘UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion’ as soon as I try to subscribe to deeplinking events (GKGameActivity.WantsToPlay) or use other GameKit Activity functionality from the official examples: // log showing that it's actually running on iOS 18.6: [Apple.Core Plug-In Runtime] Availability Runtime Environment: iOS 18.6 Apple.Core.Availability:OnApplicationStart() // and the exception I get: GameKitException: Code=-7 Domain=GKErrorDomain Description=The operation couldn’t be completed. (GKErrorDomain error -7.) (UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion) at Apple.GameKit.DefaultNSErrorHandler.ThrowNSError (System.IntPtr nsErrorPtr) [0x00000] in <00000000000000000000000000000000>:0 Rethrow as TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Apple.GameKit.GKGameActivity' threw an exception. I unfortunately didn’t find any clues as to why this happens and how to resolve it on this forum or otherwise. Changing the minimum iOS version - up to 18.6 from the previously used (Unity export default) 12.0 for any and all targets - did not yield a different result I'd rather not update the phone to use the iOS 26 beta, though as far as I understood this is not necessary Any pointers to what I might be missing or doing wrong are greatly appreciated! Thank you very much in advance!

Why slower with larger threadgroup memory?
I'm implementing optimized matmul on metal: https://github.com/crynux-ai/metal-matmul/blob/main/metal/1_shared_mem.metal I notice that performance is significantly different with different threadgroup memory set in [computeEncoder setThreadgroupMemoryLength] All other lines are exactly same, the only difference is this parameter. Matmul performance is roughly 250 GFLops if I set 32768 (max bytes allowed on this M1 Max), but 400 GFLops if I set 8192. Why does this happen? How can I optimize it?

GKLeaderboard.LoadLeaderboards() return empty when testing on Xcode with local gamekit file (Unity)
var allLeaderboards = await GKLeaderboard.LoadLeaderboards(); Log(allLeaderboards.Count); // returns 0 What am I missing?? What doesn’t work: await GKGameActivityDefinition.LoadGameActivityDefinitions() → count = 0 await GKLeaderboard.LoadLeaderboards() (no args) → 0 leaderboards await GKLeaderboard.LoadLeaderboards("MY ID") → returns 0 GkGameActivity.SetScoreOnLeaderboard(Leaderboard, score, context); returns an error since my Leaderboard is null. Reality Composer Pro 2.0 shader graphs can't be loaded on visionOS 1
Using Reality Composer Pro 2.0, I created a simple shader graph that displays a texture on an unlit surface: On visionOS 2 beta, I can successfully use ShaderGraphMaterial(named:from:in:) to load that shader graph material and assign it to a model entity. However, on visionOS 1.2 and earlier, either in Simulator or on the device, ShaderGraphMaterial(named:from:in:) fails and I see the following logged to the console: If, using Reality Composer Pro 1.0, I experimentally open the same project and delete and recreate exactly the same nodes above, then ShaderGraphMaterial(named:from:in:) works as expected on visionOS 1.2. Is it a known issue that Reality Composer 2 can't be used with visionOS 1? Is this intentional behavior? I've submitted feedback as FB14828873, including a sample project and repro steps. If possible, I would appreciate guidance from an Apple engineer, like "This is a known issue for [list of node types]" or "Reality Composer Pro 2 is not supported for visionOS 1 development, please refer to [documentation]" or "We recommend [workaround]." Thank you.

Matchmaking issue on tvOS with GKMatchmakerViewController.Request
Hello ! We are working on a real-time 2-player online game targeting multiple Apple devices. The following issue only occurs on tvOS: When selecting matchmaking to connect with another random player, the native Game Center interface opens and begins the matchmaking process. Almost immediately after clicking "start", the following log appears in the console, and the matchmaking screen remains indefinitely without completing: Timeout while starting matching with request: <GKMatchRequestInternal 0x30d62f690> { defaultNumberOfPlayers : 0 isLateJoin : 0 localPlayerID : U:bea182d69b85f0839e3958742fbc4609 matchType : 0 maxPlayers : 2 minPlayers : 2 playerAttributes : 4294967295 playerGroup : 1 preloadedMatch : 0 recipientPlayerIDs : <__NSArrayM 0x3034ed5c0> {} recipients : <__NSArrayM 0x3034ee280> {} restrictToAutomatch : 0 version : 1 archivedSharePlayInviteeTokensFromProgrammaticInvite, inviteMessage, localizableInviteMessage, messagesBasedRecipients, properties, queueName, recipientProperties, rid, sessionToken : (null) } . Error: (null) However, as shown in the code snippet below, the task does not complete when the log appears. But when we manually cancel the matchmaking process, the "User cancel" log is correctly triggered. var gkMatchRequest = GKMatchRequest.Init(); gkMatchRequest.MinPlayers = 2; gkMatchRequest.MaxPlayers = 2; var matchRequestTask = GKMatchmakerViewController.Request(gkMatchRequest); matchRequestTask.ContinueWith(t => { Debug.LogException(t.Exception); }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnFaulted); matchRequestTask.ContinueWith(t => { Debug.Log("User cancel"); }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnCanceled); matchRequestTask.ContinueWith(t => { Debug.Log("Success"); }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnRanToCompletion); We have tested this on multiple Apple TV and network types (Wi-Fi, 5G, Ethernet), but we consistently encounter this bug along with the same log message. Could you please help us understand or resolve this issue? Thank you.

iPhone Pro Model - RefreshRate
I want to display the refresh rate on the screen of the iPhone (14 Pro Max), but each app of the App Store's "Floating Clock", "Floating Clock Premium" and "Screen Renewal Rate - RefreshRate Realtime" can only display two of 60Hz and 120Hz, and I wonder if it can display numbers of 1Hz, 10Hz, tens of Hz, or more than 3 levels. Does anyone know how to do it?

Inquiry About Game Center Integration Analytics
Dear Apple Developer Support, I hope this message finds you well. I am a game developer looking to integrate Game Center into our game. Before proceeding, I would like to understand the analytical capabilities available post-integration. Specifically, I am interested in tracking detailed metrics such as: The number of new player downloads driven by Game Center features (e.g., friend challenges, leaderboards, or achievements). Data on user engagement and conversions originating from Game Center interactions. I have explored App Store Connect’s App Analytics but would appreciate clarification on whether Game Center-specific data (e.g., referrals from challenges or social features) is available to measure growth and optimize our strategies. If such data is accessible, could you guide me on how to view it? If not, are there alternative methods or plans to incorporate this in the future? Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response. Best regards, Bella

How to load a USDZ inside of a Reality Composer Pro package as ModelEntity in RealityKit ?
I need a MeshResource from ModelEntity to generate a box collider, but ModelEntity fails to load USDZ files from the Reality Composer Pro (RCP) bundle. This code works for loading an Entity: // Successfully loads as generic Entity previewEntity = try await Entity(named: fileName, in: realityKitContentBundle) But this fails when trying to load as ModelEntity: // Fails to load as ModelEntity modelEntity = try await ModelEntity(named: fileName, in: realityKitContentBundle) I found this thread mentioning: "You'll likely go from USDZ to Entity which contains a MeshResource when you load/init the USDZ file." But it doesn't explain how to actually extract the MeshResource. Could anyone advise: How to properly load USDZ files as ModelEntity from RCP bundles? How to extract MeshResource from a successfully loaded Entity? Alternative approaches to generate box colliders if direct extraction isn't possible? Sample code for extraction or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

ShaderGraphMaterial.getParameter(handle:) always return nil, is this expected behavior?
I've loaded a ShaderGraphMaterial from a RealityKit content bundle and I'm attempting to access the initial values of its parameters using getParameter(handle:), but this method appears to always return nil: let shaderGraphMaterial = try await ShaderGraphMaterial(named: "MyMaterial", from: "MyFile") let namedParameterValue = shaderGraphMaterial.getParameter(name: "myParameter") // This prints the value of the `myParameter` parameter, as expected. print("namedParameterValue = \(namedParameterValue)") let handle = ShaderGraphMaterial.parameterHandle(name: "myParameter") let handleParameterValue = shaderGraphMaterial.getParameter(handle: handle) // Expected behavior: prints the value of the `myParameter` parameter, as above. // Observed behavior: prints `nil`. print("handleParameterValue = \(handleParameterValue)") Is this expected behavior? Based on the documentation at https://aninterestingwebsite.com/documentation/realitykit/shadergraphmaterial/getparameter(handle:) I'd expect getParameter(handle:) to return the value of the parameter, just as getParameter(name:) does. I've tested this on iOS 18.5 and iOS 26.0 beta 2. Assuming this getParameter(handle:) works as designed, is the following ShaderGraphMaterial extension an appropriate workaround, or can you recommend a better approach? Thank you. public extension ShaderGraphMaterial { /// Reassigns the values of all named material parameters using the handle-based API. /// /// This works around an issue where, at least as of RealityKit 26.0 beta 2 and /// earlier, `getParameter(handle:)` will always return `nil` when used to read the /// initial value of a shader graph material parameter read using /// `ShaderGraphMaterial(named:from:in:)`, whereas `getParameter(name:)` will work /// as expected. private mutating func copyNamedParametersToHandles() { for parameterName in self.parameterNames { if let value = self.getParameter(name: parameterName) { let handle = ShaderGraphMaterial.parameterHandle(name: parameterName) do { try self.setParameter(handle: handle, value: value) } catch { assertionFailure("Cannot set parameter value") } } } } }

What good is NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied?

If I don't use NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied as part of the format, I don't get the error message. My question is, why does the constant NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied exist if you can't use it like this? If you're wondering why I wanted to do this: I want to extract the RGBA pixel data from an image, which might have non-premultiplied alpha. And elsewhere online, I saw advice that if you want to look at the pixels of an image, draw it into a bitmap whose format you know and look at those pixels. And I don't want the process of drawing to premultiply my alpha.

Testing Gamecenter Accounts
HI all, I'm in the early stages of testing a game that will have real-time device-to-device communication using GameCenter. I've read something about setting up GameCenter "sandbox" accounts to test prior to the game's release, but I can't find anything reliable about how to do so. I've found lots of web pages which purport to describe how to do this task, but what they describe seems to be outdated, as the steps don't appear to be available in modern versions of iOS. I'm testing on iOS 18 and 26. Document search isn't helping--I mostly find information on how to set up StoreKit sandbox accounts, which I assume are different things altogether--so if you could point me towards an article that allows me to test a new, unreleased GameKit app between devices, I'd appreciate it. People are developing GameCenter apps, so I know it's possible... advTHANKSance

RealityKit not behaving as expected
This week, I developed a small multiplatform RealityKit project. I also created a demo scene in Reality Composer Pro. Afterward, I imported the local package into the project. Running the project on macOS works perfectly. However, when I tried to run it on my iPhone, I encountered a permission error indicating that it couldn’t read the package. This seems unusual to me because I assumed that the dependency is bundled into the binary file. In an attempt to resolve the issue, I pushed the RCP package to GitHub, hoping it would work. Fortunately, everything compiles successfully now, but the loading time is significantly long, and the animations don’t play on tap gestures. Could someone please help me identify the root cause of this problem?

Embedded links not clickable in PDFs for iOS devices
I have a SPFx React application where I am printing the HTML page content using the javascript default window.print() functionality. Once I save the page as pdf from the print preview window and open it using Adobe Acrobat, the links(for eg -> Google) within the content are not clickable and appearing as plain text. I have tried to print random pages post searching with any keywords in Google and saved the files as pdfs, but, unfortunately, the links are still not clickable there as well. To check whether it is an Adobe Acrobat issue, I have performed the same print functionality from Android devices and shared the pdf file across the iOS devices and in that case, when opened using Adobe Acrobat, the links are appearing to be clickable. I am wondering whether it is something related to how the default print functionality works for iPadOS and iOS devices. Any insights on this would be really helpful. Thanks!!! Note: The links are clickable for MacOS as well as for Windows. #ios #ipados #javascript #spfx #react

The part of code is: return drawable.views.map { view in let userViewpointMatrix = (simdDeviceAnchor * view.transform).inverse let projectionMatrix = ProjectiveTransform3D( leftTangent: Double(view.tangents[0]), rightTangent: Double(view.tangents[1]), topTangent: Double(view.tangents[2]), bottomTangent: Double(view.tangents[3]), nearZ: Double(drawable.depthRange.y), farZ: Double(drawable.depthRange.x), reverseZ: true ) let screenSize = SIMD2(x: Int(view.textureMap.viewport.width), y: Int(view.textureMap.viewport.height)) return ModelRendererViewportDescriptor(viewport: view.textureMap.viewport, projectionMatrix: .init(projectionMatrix), viewMatrix: userViewpointMatrix * translationMatrix * rotationMatrix * scalingMatrix * commonUpCalibration, screenSize: screenSize) }

Virtual Controllers on Mac via the Game Controller Framework
Hi fellow devs, I have a quick question is it possible to have virtual controllers on Mac. For instance can my app exclusively manage the controller and output it into the Game Controller framework? And create a virtual controller to allow for features such as controller emulation, haptic control, and others.

I've loaded a ShaderGraphMaterial from a RealityKit content bundle and I'm attempting to access the initial values of its parameters using getParameter(handle:), but this method appears to always return nil: let shaderGraphMaterial = try await ShaderGraphMaterial(named: "MyMaterial", from: "MyFile") let namedParameterValue = shaderGraphMaterial.getParameter(name: "myParameter") // This prints the value of the `myParameter` parameter, as expected. print("namedParameterValue = \(namedParameterValue)") let handle = ShaderGraphMaterial.parameterHandle(name: "myParameter") let handleParameterValue = shaderGraphMaterial.getParameter(handle: handle) // Expected behavior: prints the value of the `myParameter` parameter, as above. // Observed behavior: prints `nil`. print("handleParameterValue = \(handleParameterValue)") Is this expected behavior? Based on the documentation at https://aninterestingwebsite.com/documentation/realitykit/shadergraphmaterial/getparameter(handle:) I'd expect getParameter(handle:) to return the value of the parameter, just as getParameter(name:) does. I've tested this on iOS 18.5 and iOS 26.0 beta 2. Assuming this getParameter(handle:) works as designed, is the following ShaderGraphMaterial extension an appropriate workaround, or can you recommend a better approach? Thank you. public extension ShaderGraphMaterial { /// Reassigns the values of all named material parameters using the handle-based API. /// /// This works around an issue where, at least as of RealityKit 26.0 beta 2 and /// earlier, `getParameter(handle:)` will always return `nil` when used to read the /// initial value of a shader graph material parameter read using /// `ShaderGraphMaterial(named:from:in:)`, whereas `getParameter(name:)` will work /// as expected. private mutating func copyNamedParametersToHandles() { for parameterName in self.parameterNames { if let value = self.getParameter(name: parameterName) { let handle = ShaderGraphMaterial.parameterHandle(name: parameterName) do { try self.setParameter(handle: handle, value: value) } catch { assertionFailure("Cannot set parameter value") } } } } }

What good is NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied?
If I create a bitmap image and then try to get ready to draw into it, like so: NSBitmapImageRep* newRep = [[NSBitmapImageRep alloc] initWithBitmapDataPlanes: nullptr pixelsWide: 128 pixelsHigh: 128 bitsPerSample: 8 samplesPerPixel: 4 hasAlpha: YES isPlanar: NO colorSpaceName: NSDeviceRGBColorSpace bitmapFormat: NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied | NSBitmapFormatThirtyTwoBitBigEndian bytesPerRow: 4 * 128 bitsPerPixel: 32]; [NSGraphicsContext setCurrentContext: [NSGraphicsContext graphicsContextWithBitmapImageRep: newRep]]; then the log shows this error: CGBitmapContextCreate: unsupported parameter combination: RGB 8 bits/component, integer 512 bytes/row kCGImageAlphaLast kCGImageByteOrderDefault kCGImagePixelFormatPacked Valid parameters for RGB color space model are: 16 bits per pixel, 5 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipFirst 32 bits per pixel, 8 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipFirst 32 bits per pixel, 8 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipLast 32 bits per pixel, 8 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedFirst 32 bits per pixel, 8 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast 32 bits per pixel, 10 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaNone|kCGImagePixelFormatRGBCIF10|kCGImageByteOrder16Little 64 bits per pixel, 16 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast 64 bits per pixel, 16 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipLast 64 bits per pixel, 16 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast|kCGBitmapFloatComponents|kCGImageByteOrder16Little 64 bits per pixel, 16 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipLast|kCGBitmapFloatComponents|kCGImageByteOrder16Little 128 bits per pixel, 32 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast|kCGBitmapFloatComponents 128 bits per pixel, 32 bits per component, kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipLast|kCGBitmapFloatComponents See Quartz 2D Programming Guide (available online) for more information.
