Walking an entity around an immersive space in visionOS like the window drag bar
I'm trying to understand how Apple handles dragging windows around in an immersive space. 3d Gestures seem to be only half of the solution in that they are great if you're standing still and want to move the window an exaggerated amount around the environment, but if you then start walking while dragging, the amplified gesture sends the entity flying off into the distance. It seems they quickly transition from one coordinate system to another depending on if the user is physically moving. If you drag a window and start walking the movement suddenly matches your speed. When you stop moving, you can push and pull the windows around again like a super hero. Am I missing something obvious in how to copy this behavior? Hello world, which uses the 3d gesture has the same problem. You can move the world around but if you walk with it, it flies off. Are they tracking the head movement and if it's moved more than a certain amount it uses that offset instead? Is there anything out of the box that can do this before I try and hack my own solution?

Many CGECreateKeyboardEvent in quick succession causing function and dictation buttons to be pressed?
Hi! I hope everyone reading is doing well. I am working on developing a reinforcement learning agent that involves sending scan codes to a window, which I've been doing by sending virtual scan codes with CGEventCreateKeyboardEvent per the docs. There is no event source when I send the keyboard events. However, when many keyboard events are happening (with the keys 'q', 'w', 'e', 'r', 'f', 'd', 's', space, arrow keys) in quick succession (<250ms), the enable dictation popup or the function button emojis popup appear for seemingly no reason. I have verified that I am using the correct scan codes for these keypresses, so I am wondering what else could cause this to happen. It is as if I am choosing to press f5 or fn. It does not happen when 'a' is the only button being pressed in quick succession. One thing that I have not been able to easily find is the scan code inputs for dictation nor the function button. do these scan codes overlap somehow? Thank you all for the help! Hunter

D3DMetal Extreme Over Synchronization Issues
Explanation Currently, D3DMetal’s GPU synchronization approach introduces significant compute overhead on the CPU. This specifically affects D3D12 games that use modern rendering pipelines on Apple Silicon. Specifically, I’ve tested Death Stranding 2 On the Beach for how it handles its rendering. And the results are extreme: frame times are suffering from a 42% decrease from synchronization. Although there are obviously other effects at play, such as the overhead introduced by Rosetta and Wine, both of them don’t introduce as much overhead as D3DMetal. This issue isn’t just specific to Death Stranding 2 On the Beach; most games running through D3DMetal suffer from this. Most games still seem to force synchronization to ~30 ms to reach the 30 fps amount. But it could be better with better synchronization, such as how DXMT handles it. Instead of doubling the work, it allows Metal to single-handedly track resource dependencies internally. This is in part due to the unfortunate bad mapping of D3D12 calls onto shared logic between D3D11 and D3D12. System M2 Max Mac Studio — 32 GBs — 30-core GPU macOS 26.4 Tahoe CrossOver 26.1 RC Death Stranding 2 On the Beach — Steam Assassin’s Creed Valhalla — Steam & Ubisoft Connect Thank you for your commitment. SceneKit shader compile and cache issues? :(
I'm making an apple watch game and it's running so smooth and nice while developing but I ran into a showstopping problem that I wouldn't even have noticed until i deleted the app and reinstalled... Every first-run on a freshly installed copy of the game has major frame hitches as it loads assets. Every run after that has ZERO hitches and runs like butter. Even if i install a new version on top of the old one (which is why i never noticed this problem in my almost finished game) it runs smooth. Framerate issues come back if I delete and reinstall. I think it's compiling shaders or caching geometry but I haven't been able to trick it into doing the hard work during non-critical moments in the game. I've tried preloading assets in the main menu, loading at the start of the level, loading and rendering in a tiny part of the screen, rendering behind dialog boxes... it seems no matter what i can only get rid of the frame hitches after the game has been played through once... and I'm going to lose all customers on that first terrible impression even though the game is actually really good and fun when it's running properly... Any suggestions how i can prewarm/precompile the assets to avoid framerate hitches and freezes during gameplay? I thought I was so close to release but I feel this is un-shippable! I can send a link to my test flight build to anyone that wants to see the problem first hand. Also please note that I am artist-forward with a technical lean, but certainly not a real programmer, unfortunately. Jiovanie

receivedTurnEventForMatch giving stale data
In my turn-based game, I receive GKListener event receivedTurnEventForMatch and decode the match.matchData. On occasion, the matchData is clearly stale and is from the previous turn. If I call the MatchMaker ViewController up and select that same match, the data is not stale, so it's not a matter of not calling endTurn. I have tried both loadMatchWithID and loadMatchesWithCompletionHandler after receiving the receivedTurnEventForMatch, but the data is still stale. Advice?

Present GameCentre Overlay Programmatically
As GKGameCenterViewController has been deprecated, it seems that GKAccessPoint is now the correct way to present the GameCentre leaderboard. But the placement options for the GKAccessPoint are very limited and lead to misaligned UI that looks clunky, as the GKAccessPoint does not align with the system navigation toolbar. Am I missing something here or am I just stuck with a lopsided UI now? I much preferred how this previously worked, where I could present the GKGameCenterViewController in a sheet from my own button

How to apply the same SystemImage to both mainEmitter and spawnedEmitter without clipping in ParticleEmitterComponent?
Hi everyone, I’m currently learning about ParticleEmitterComponentParticleEmitterComponent and exploring the sample app provided in the Simulating particles in your visionOS app documentation. In the sample app, when I set the EmitterPreset to fireworks from the settings panel on the left side of the window and choose SystemImage, I noticed two issues: The image applied to mainEmitter appears clipped or cropped. The image on spawnedEmitter does not update to the selected SystemImage. What I want to achieve: Apply the same SystemImage to both mainEmittermainEmitter and spawnedEmitterspawnedEmitter so that it displays correctly without clipping. Remove the animation that changes the size of spawnedEmitterspawnedEmitter over time and keep it at a constant size. Could someone explain which properties should be adjusted to achieve this behavior? Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Game Center Challenges and Activities are not appearing
Hi, I'm trying to add game center challenges and activities to an already live game, but they are not appearing in game for testing, GameCenter, or the Games app. I know the game is setup with GameKit entitlements since this is a live game and it has working leaderboards and achievements. I've updated to Tahoe beta 8, added a challenge and activity on app store connect, added that to a new distribution and added that distribution to 'Add for Review' I'm using Unity and the Apple Unity plugin Not sure what other steps I'm missing Thanks

Metal recommendedMaxWorkingSetSize vs actual RAM on iPhone (LLM load fails)
Context I’m deploying large language models on iPhone using llama.cpp. A new iPhone Air (12 GB RAM) reports a Metal MTLDevice.recommendedMaxWorkingSetSize of 8,192 MB, and my attempt to load Llama-2-13B Q4_K (~7.32 GB weights) fails during model initialization. Environment Device: iPhone Air (12 GB RAM) iOS: 26 Xcode: 26.0.1 Build: Metal backend enabled llama.cpp App runs on device (not Simulator) What I’m seeing MTLCreateSystemDefaultDevice().recommendedMaxWorkingSetSize == 8192 MiB Loading Llama-2-13B Q4_K (7.32 GB) fails to complete. Logs indicate memory pressure / allocation issues consistent with the 8 GB working-set guidance. Smaller models (e.g., 7B/8B with similar quantization) load and run (8B Q4_K provide around 9 tokens/second decoding speed). Questions Is 8,192 MB an expected recommendedMaxWorkingSetSize on a 12 GB iPhone? What values should I expect on other 2025 devices including iPhone 17 (8 GB RAM) and iPhone 17 Pro (12 GB RAM) Is it strictly enforced by Metal allocations (heaps/buffers), or advisory for best performance/eviction behavior? Can a process practically exceed this for long-lived buffers without immediate Jetsam risk? Any guidance for LLM scenarios near the limit?

When I go to the leadership section, I have 8 currently active leaderboards. When I select "manage scores and players" I see 9 leaderboards, from which 5 are legacy and my 4 new ones are not listed (also it comes in a very old design). New players will score in the 4 new leaderboards but I need to remove the top score which was the developer score, to give them a chance, but the new leaderboards are not accessible.

ScreenCaptureKit recording output is corrupted when captureMicrophone is true
Hello everyone, I'm working on a screen recording app using ScreenCaptureKit and I've hit a strange issue. My app records the screen to an .mp4 file, and everything works perfectly until the .captureMicrophone is false In this case, I get a valid, playable .mp4 file. However, as soon as I try to enable the microphone by setting streamConfig.captureMicrophone = true, the recording seems to work, but the final .mp4 file is corrupted and cannot be played by QuickTime or any other player. This happens whether capturesAudio (app audio) is on or off. I've already added the "Privacy - Microphone Usage Description" (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) to my Info.plist, so I don't think it's a permissions problem. I have my logic split into a ScreenRecorder class that manages state and a CaptureEngine that handles the SCStream. Here is how I'm configuring my SCStream: ScreenRecorder.swift // This is my main SCStreamConfiguration private var streamConfiguration: SCStreamConfiguration { var streamConfig = SCStreamConfiguration() // ... other HDR/preset config ... // These are the problem properties streamConfig.capturesAudio = isAudioCaptureEnabled streamConfig.captureMicrophone = isMicCaptureEnabled // breaks it if true streamConfig.excludesCurrentProcessAudio = false streamConfig.showsCursor = false if let region = selectedRegion, let display = currentDisplay { // My region/frame logic (works fine) let regionWidth = Int(region.frame.width) let regionHeight = Int(region.frame.height) streamConfig.width = regionWidth * scaleFactor streamConfig.height = regionHeight * scaleFactor // ... (sourceRect logic) ... } streamConfig.pixelFormat = kCVPixelFormatType_32BGRA streamConfig.colorSpaceName = CGColorSpace.sRGB streamConfig.minimumFrameInterval = CMTime(value: 1, timescale: 60) return streamConfig } And here is how I'm setting up the SCRecordingOutput that writes the file: ScreenRecorder.swift private func initRecordingOutput(for region: ScreenPickerManager.SelectedRegion) throws { let screeRecordingOutputURL = try RecordingWorkspace.createScreenRecordingVideoFile( in: workspaceURL, sessionIndex: sessionIndex ) let recordingConfiguration = SCRecordingOutputConfiguration() recordingConfiguration.outputURL = screeRecordingOutputURL recordingConfiguration.outputFileType = .mp4 recordingConfiguration.videoCodecType = .hevc let recordingOutput = SCRecordingOutput(configuration: recordingConfiguration, delegate: self) self.recordingOutput = recordingOutput } Finally, my CaptureEngine adds these to the SCStream: CaptureEngine.swift class CaptureEngine: NSObject, @unchecked Sendable { private(set) var stream: SCStream? private var streamOutput: CaptureEngineStreamOutput? // ... (dispatch queues) ... func startCapture(configuration: SCStreamConfiguration, filter: SCContentFilter, recordingOutput: SCRecordingOutput) async throws { let streamOutput = CaptureEngineStreamOutput() self.streamOutput = streamOutput do { stream = SCStream(filter: filter, configuration: configuration, delegate: streamOutput) // Add outputs for raw buffers (not used for file recording) try stream?.addStreamOutput(streamOutput, type: .screen, sampleHandlerQueue: videoSampleBufferQueue) try stream?.addStreamOutput(streamOutput, type: .audio, sampleHandlerQueue: audioSampleBufferQueue) try stream?.addStreamOutput(streamOutput, type: .microphone, sampleHandlerQueue: micSampleBufferQueue) // Add the file recording output try stream?.addRecordingOutput(recordingOutput) try await stream?.startCapture() } catch { logger.error("Failed to start capture: \(error.localizedDescription)") throw error } } // ... (stopCapture, etc.) ... } When I had the .captureMicrophone value to be false, I get a perfect .mp4 video playable everywhere, however, when its true, I am getting corrupted video which doesn't play at all :-

How to verify with the appropriate signing authority that Apple signed the public key
Hello I trying to implement authentication via apple services in unity game with server made as another unity app On client side I succesfully got teamPlayerID signature salt timestamp publicKeyUrl According to this documentation https://aninterestingwebsite.com/documentation/gamekit/gklocalplayer/fetchitems(foridentityverificationsignature:)?language=objc I have to Verify with the appropriate signing authority that Apple signed the public key. As I said my server is special build of unity project So now I have this kind of C# programm to check apple authority over public certificate i got from publicKeyUrl TextAsset textAsset; byte[] bytes; textAsset = Resources.Load<TextAsset>("AppleRootCA-G3"); bytes = textAsset.bytes; rootCert.ChainPolicy.ExtraStore.Add(new X509Certificate2(bytes)); textAsset = Resources.Load<TextAsset>("AppleRootCA-G2"); bytes = textAsset.bytes; rootCert.ChainPolicy.ExtraStore.Add(new X509Certificate2(bytes)); textAsset = Resources.Load<TextAsset>("AppleIncRootCertificate"); bytes = textAsset.bytes; rootCert.ChainPolicy.ExtraStore.Add(new X509Certificate2(bytes)); rootCert.Build(cert); Where cert is X509Certificate2 object I ge from publicKeyUrl AppleIncRootCertificate AppleRootCA-G2 AppleRootCA-G3 is certificates I got from https://www.apple.com/certificateauthority/ But it is not work Anytime rootCert.Build(cert); return false Why it is not work? May be I build keychain using wrong root CA cert? Or whole approach incorrect? Please help

RealityView AR - anchored to the screen not the floor
This started out as a plea for help, but in preparing this post I discovered the root cause. I'm posting it as a lesson learned in hopes it will help someone. I've spent a good chunk of March trying to get AR-mode working again in my unreleased game. I had it working with SceneKit and ARView 5 years ago, but since 2024 I've been converting the game to use RealityKit and RealityView on iOS, macOS, visionOS, and tvOS. I've been having no joy getting AR mode to work on iOS. I get the pass-through device video but the game content isn't anchored to the floor but rather anchored to the screen. I made a simple project with just a simple shape in the middle of a RealityView and an overlay with a SwiftUI toggle to go in and out of AR-mode. At first, my simple project worked, and I couldn't figure out what was different in the logic. Both projects used the same logic: func transitionToXR(_ content: inout RealityViewCameraContent) { content.remove(gameBoard.rootEntity) content.add(xrAnchor) content.camera = .spatialTracking Self.anchorStateChangedSubscription = content.subscribe(to: SceneEvents.AnchoredStateChanged.self) { event in if event.anchor == xrAnchor, event.isAnchored { xrAnchor.addChild(gameBoard.rootEntity) } } } Then I made an alternate version of my view, and reproduced the same "anchored to the screen not the floor" issue. I compared the code side-by-side and finally saw the difference! The one that didn't work, like my game, had a property 'cameraEntity' which is initialized with PerspectiveCamera(), position and look-at configured, then added as a child of the root entity. So, the simple fix was to remove 'cameraEntity' from the root entity before adding it to the detected AnchorEntity when going into AR-mode. Then when leaving AR-mode, I add back 'cameraEntity' as a child of the root entity and configure it again. So the lesson learned is: make sure there isn't a PerspectiveCamera in the tree of Entities added to an AnchorEntity with a .spatialTracking content camera. Apple: let me know if you think this is a bug or if I was being dumb. If a bug, I can use Feedback Assistant to report this. If I was being dumb, it wouldn't be the first time. :-)

RealityKit - Full 3D experience
I have a question I guess more for the Apple team. But why are there no totally 3D experiences for the Vision Pro lineup? I know they have given us tools to implement unity 3D games into iPhone and I guess you can also build it in RealityKit. But why at this moment are 3D games limited to just iPad and iPhone and can't you bring that into Vision Pro? Just to explain. When I say a totally 3D game, I mean games like Gorn. I mean the Vision Pro is definitely powerful enough, but it just feels limited to tabletop games and AR games. Is this something Apple is thinking about implementing?

Is Using Metal Compute Shaders for Efficient Resource Copying to RealityKit the Best Approach for Streaming Data in Real-Time Rendering?
Hi Apple, In VisionOS, for real-time streaming of large 3D scenes, I plan to create Metal buffers and textures in multiple threads and then use a compute shader on the main thread to copy the Metal resources into RealityKit, minimizing main thread usage. Given that most of RealityKit's default APIs require execution on the main actor (main thread), it is not ideal for streaming data. Is this approach the best way to handle streaming data and real-time rendering? Thank you very much.

RealityKit .Kinematic + collisions (visionOs)
Hi everyone, I'm new to visionOS development. I'm trying to create a physics-based scene (with gravity) where users can pick up and move objects on a workbench. I am struggling with physics interactions during the drag gesture: Kinematic Mode: If I switch to .kinematic during the drag, the object moves smoothly but clips through other objects (no collisions). Dynamic Mode: I tried keeping it .dynamic and applying linear velocity toward the hand position, but the movement feels laggy and unresponsive. Hybrid Approach: I tried switching to .kinematic during DragGesture.onChange and back to .dynamic on collision, but this causes the entity to jitter/shake violently when touching other objects. Has anyone found a clean way to drag objects while maintaining solid collisions. Thanks for your help!

MacOS 26 Beta limiting frame rates of games to native display refresh rate
Hello, MacOS 26 Betas are limiting games (noticeably, games that use java) to the native display of the MacBook Pro (120hz). Even connecting an external display this is not changing. I have submitted a bug report, but I have not had any responses to it yet. I am looking to see if anyone may have an answer or fix to this issue. Thanks!
