New linker in Command Line Tools 16 not working with BLOCK DATA
We've encountered a critical issue with the new linker of CLT16 (version 16.1.0.0.1.1729049160) that prevents proper initialization of BLOCK DATA. BLOCK DATA are used to initialize global variables in our Fortran code, and its failure to initialize those variables leads to a program crash. This affects our community of more that thousand scientists worldwide. The current workaround is using the -ld_classic linker option. However, this option is deprecated and will be removed in a future release, as described in the Xcode release note. I've attached a minimal example that reproduces the problem using GNU gfortran with the following instructions (the attached main.f.txt and bd.f.txt need to be rename to main.f and bd.f, respectively): gfortran -c bd.f gfortran -c main.f ar rv libtest.a bd.o main.o gfortran -ld_classic -o good.x -L. libtest.a gfortran -o bad.x -L. libtest.a Running the two programs, one can see that the BLOCK DATA are not initialised without the option ld_classic, $ > ./good.x 3.7273802569289098 2.8083922366048202 $ > ./bad.x 0.0000000000000000 0.0000000000000000 We kindly request your attention to this matter and a prompt solution or alternative workaround. SwiftUI: Command SwiftCompile failed with a nonzero exit code
I have a SwiftUI app that I've been working on in XCode 16.1. The project builds and runs in the simulators, on my mac and on my iPhone/iPad without any issues. I'm also able to build my unit test project and run them without any errors. The project has zero warnings in it. When I go to the Edit Schemes options and change the Run scheme to be a Release build with the Debug Executable unchecked I get a compiler error: Command SwiftCompile failed with a nonzero exit code I've attempted this Release Run with the following target devices in XCode: My iPhone 15 Pro Max (iOS 18.2 Beta 3) MacBook Air (M1) (15.2 Beta) iPhone 16 Simulator (iOS 18.1) Any iOS Simulator Device (arm64, x86_64) All 3 of these target have the same issue. Normally I would just debug the error from the logs but when I look at the build output I can't see any information in the log to tell me what happened. It looks like the source files are sent into the SwiftCompiler and the compiler fails without bubbling up the issue. I've provided the full error log export as a Gist HERE due to it's size. Is there anything in the log I'm missing? Is there a way for me to turn on more verbose logging during compilation of a Release Build? I created a brand new Multiplatform App in XCode and I added all of my source files to it. No project configuration settings were changed. I could build it successfully with the debug configuration. I then changed it to the Release configuration and experienced the same error. I can create another fresh project and make the same release configuration with none of my source files in it and get a successful build. I t seems there is something wrong with my source files and the release configuration but the compiler doesn't indicate what. I'm lost at this point as I can't figure out how to get a release build and can't seem to find any indication as to why.

Xcode 16.1 (16B40) Stopped Building Universal Binaries
Anyone else notice that Xcode 16.1 seems to have stopped building universal binaries for both debug and release builds even though under "Build Settings-Build Active Architecture" both Debug and Release are set to NO. We had been using the universal binary builds out of Debug for preliminary tests on Intel based machines. The Architectures setting is set to: Standard Architectures (Apple Silicon, Intel) - $(ARCHS_STANDARD). I started a brand new empty app and it does the same thing. A workaround is to set the Destination in Xcode's menu bar to "Build on Any Mac" and then find the binary and drag it to the Intel computer. You can't run that one though from Xcode. Another workaround is to build an Archive and drag that one.

App Shortcuts Preview: No Matching Intent?
Hi! In neither Xcode 16.2 beta 3 nor Xcode 16.2 I am able to get App Shortcuts Preview to recognise my Shortcuts. In either supported language I always get "No Matching Intent" as the result. Flexible matching is enabled, minimum deployment target is iOS 18. The Shortcut phrases do work in the simulator and on device. Is this a known issue or am I missing something?

Xcode 16.0 syntax highlighting and autocompletion is broken for Swift packages with .binaryTarget
Syntax highlighting & code autocompletion is broken for Swift Packages wrapping an underlying binary target. Jump to defenition for module import shows the whole module interface and project builds & archives just fine, but any known workarounds to resurrect syntax assistant won't work without any errors/warnings. Replacing the .binaryTarget() with plain .target() with source code in package dependency brings all assistant features back. Steps to reproduce (project attached): Create a local Swift Package Add a dependency with binary target (for example — AppsFlyerFramework https://github.com/AppsFlyerSDK/AppsFlyerFramework) Try to use dependency product with binary dependency Attempted steps to fix: Full DD clean Full project clean ~15 min to index Xcode 16.0 & Sonoma 14.6.1, problem persists with Xcode16.2 & Sequoia. iOS app fails to run with Xcode 16 & less than iOS17.0 no issue with Xocde 15
When I build and rum my iOS app with xocde 16.0 or higher version with my 16.0 iOS, 17.0 iOS, if fails to run with error. (Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/SwiftUICore.framework/SwiftUICore) I found this error after update my macOS and xcode (Ventura -> Sequoia, Xcode 15.2 -> 16.2). I try to setting '-weak_framework SwiftUI' for solve this error with this post (https://forums.aninterestingwebsite.com/forums/thread/126506). But when applied, an error occurred in modify on all swiftUI. If a project is built with a simulator over 18 versions, it runs smoothly. *issue project is with tac or tuist. There are two projects in question, and each configuration is (1.17.0 tca + 4.37.0) / (tuist 3.4.0). Does anyone have any pointers as where I even start to debug this issue and narrow down on what's going on with Xcode 16?

LLDB error: type for self cannot be reconstructed: type for typename
All is fine in Xcode15, no LLDB errors whatsoever, but in Xcode16 I can't get any variable displayed in the console because of the following error: error: type for self cannot be reconstructed: type for typename "$......." was not found (cached) error: Couldn't realize Swift AST type of self. Hint: using `v` to directly inspect variables and fields may still work. I've checked the output of swift-healthcheck and there are several messages like this: SwiftASTContextForExpressions(module: "ROA", cu: "ROA+ViewLayer.swift")::LoadOneModule() -- Missing Swift module or Clang module found for "UIKit", "imported" via SwiftDWARFImporterDelegate. Hint: Register Swift modules with the linker using -add_ast_path. I added -add_ast_path to the OTHER_LDFLAGS in the faulty module's build settings but no luck. How can I debug my project in Xcode16?

Empty dSYM file detected & Error: type for self cannot be reconstructed: type for typename
I'm pulling my hair out here with this new Xcode 16, it complains that my app's dSYM is empty though it's clearly not, it's about 25MB. I'm working on a project using an internal static library, everything is built inhouse using swift, we own all the source code. It worked just fine until the other week, when I updated the Xcode, and now I can't debug anything. I keep getting "type for self cannot be reconstructed" when I run "po self.some_property". Why is that? The Debug information Format is set to DWARF with dSYM File for both the executable and lib projects. I've been a Unix guy since before I knew myself and I enjoy fixing things myself, down to bare metal, but man, this bug is driving me crazy. Is it even a bug?? It's the first time in more than 15 years since I started coding on Mac and iPhone when a bug has defeated me. I was always able to fix things using just the documentation and google, but the Apple toolchain is getting worse and worse nowadays. I remember the time when Apple made the complicated things simple, now they make the simple things complicated :( I just split the static lib from the main project one year ago, because of the ridiculously long build time. Should I merge back all the code in a single project? Something seems wrong to me. So I created this account to ask the masters. How can I get back my debug info (and sanity)? Using Xcode 15 is not an option because it doesn't run on Sequoia.

How to Resolve Core Data Composite Attributes Errors in Xcode?
How do I resolve these errors reported in Xcode about using Core Data Composite Attributes feature? Composite Attributes feature requires tvOS deployment target 17.0 or later Composite Attributes feature requires watchOS deployment target 10.0 or later My app is a Cocoa app and targets macOS 14.0+. I do not have an iOS, iPadOS, tvOS nor watchOS targets. So, I don't understand why I am getting these errors. My Xcode project format is set to Xcode 16.0. I am on macOS Sequoia 15.2 (24C101) and using Xcode Version 16.2 (16C5032a). If you create a new Xcode project and choose macOS > App and Storage > Core Data and then Add Composite Type and set an attribute name and type, you will get the errors.

I'm trying to create a preview for my live activities when it's stale, so I created a preview provider. I followed some examples, but XCode says I'm missing preview context. Am I doing something wrong? I tried adding .previewContext(WidgetPreviewContext(family: .systemSmall)) but that doesn't seem to work.

Bug: Xcode Refactor -> Rename with Conditional Compilation
When renaming A.value, it also causes the value inside the conditional compilation in checkRename to be renamed. How to resolve or avoid this situation? class A { let value = "1" } class B { var value = 0 } func checkRename() { var b = B() #if os(iOS) b.value = 456 #elseif os(macOS) b.value = 789 #endif } Xcode Version 15.4 (15F31d).

iOS app fails to run with Xcode 16 & less than iOS17.0 no issue with Xocde 15

Sync IOS cursor to app cursor.
My app controls the cursor within its text area. Upon touching the screen the ios moves the cursor when dragging. The app cursor and the IOS cursor are now out of sync. Is there a way to set the app cursor to the IOS cursor? I have checked many sources to no avail. Thanks for your help. Charlie
